HomeNewsHere’s the first official photo from THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK, and a new featurette for the first film to boot! Darryn Bonthuys December 7, 2012 News By now, there’s been more promotional material released for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, than there is actual content for the film. But today you’re getting something a little different. So if you’re biting your fingernails waiting for the premiere of Hobbit: An Unexpected next week, then here’s some video-stuff to help tide you over, as well as elvish equivalent of a walking Pantene ad. That’s right we’ve got the first official image of the legless Lego Legolas himself from EW, as he stands being all Elvish and whatnot. But wait a minute you say, Legolas isn’t even in the original book! Well, firstly you may have noticed that sub-title “There and Back” earlier, and that’s because this is actually from the 3rd film, not the one being released next week. And secondly, with one book now being turned into 3 movies, just leave it to director Peter Jackson to find a way to fill up some space using the popular archer. He’s [elven king] Thranduil’s son, and Thranduil is one of the characters in The Hobbit. And because elves are immortal it makes sense Legolas would be part of the sequence in the Woodland Realm. And that chap standing next to him? That’s the Laketown warrior Bard the Bowman, played by Luke Evans, who writer/producer Philippa Boyens says is a bit more mysterious in the film; Bard is an interesting character, but [in the book] he’s kind of a random character who comes in after the fact. We take more time introducing him. We know from what follows that he was a father, so we [explore] that. I don’t think we take liberties, because it’s all there in the storytelling. And next up, we have a picture of the new fellowship confronted by the goblin king, who was clearly modeled after Kervyn that one time he got a little too drunk at a new years party. And finally, thanks to movieweb, a brand spankin’ new behind the scenes video, which clocks in at around 13 minutes of your worthy time. The Hobbit is out next week Wednesday at all local cinemas.
