Suck it Disney! While the house of mouse owns the film rights to some of the bigger guns in the Marvel Universe, you won’t be seeing The Avengers teaming up with the first family of super-heroics, the Fantastic Four, any time soon.
Twentieth Century Fox has a use ‘em or lose ‘em clause for the characters of The Thing, Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Woman and The Human Torch, and they’ve got a film ready and raring to go to keep that property in their pocket.
Fox is looking at a March 6, 2015 release date for the film, which will reboot the cosmically powered explorers, thanks to a script from Michael Green and Jeremy Slater, that Josh “Chronicle” Trank will direct.
The original Fantastic Four films were directed by Tim Story, and starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. While they were fun movies, they were far from perfect, with Rise of the Silver Surfer under-performing at the box office back in 2007.
Maybe this time, the third time to the power of four will be the charm. Quick, someone get Roger Corman on the line! That man made a far better Fantastic Four film back in 1994 already!
