Back in 2010, Disney managed to produce a flick that was an absolute blast, in the form of Tangled. Absolutely gorgeous, charming and having a real heart, it picked up the ball that The Princess and the frog had brought to the field.

The next Disney film on the horizon, is a new adaptation of a classic Hans Christian Anderson tale, although we’re presuming that this one will have less psychologically-scarring issues attached to it. We’ve seen some concept art of Frozen before, but today, we’re getting a better peek into the realm of the Ice Queen.

The image above shows off film leads Anna and Kristoff, taking a merry stroll through an icy wonderland. Well merry for Anna at least, because Kristoff has the exact same facial expression that Kervyn does when he wakes up in the morning.

But it’s also a clear indicator that visually, this movie is going to bear a style similar to Tangled. Albeit more wintery, according to the official synopsis:

When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell.

Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Speaking to EW, co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck slipped a few more details on the image. “We wanted to push it to the extreme,” said Lee of the eery winter scene. “The unnatural quality of the ice emphasizes this is not, you know, sky-made ice, but ice made by someone.”

And of course, all that global cooling is coming from Elsa, who happens to either be a mutant or pure magic, with her winter powers, which manifests itselfs in an ability to create one of a kind, signature snowflakes.

”You’ll see that shape throughout,” said Buck. “It’s very subtle, but that’s basically [evidence of] Elsa’s magic. That’s her signature.” According to Buck and Lee though, the real focus of the film will play out between Anna and Elsa, sisters with a strained relationship that will help ground the story at times;

Anna is a very relatable character to those of us who are not superheroes. She’s wonderfully flawed, but fearless. And wants to do the right thing. Those are the characters I love,” Lee said. Her buddy Kristoff, meanwhile, is just trying to deal with the powerful woman at his side.“From the Kristoff angle, we were trying to get at what it’s like to be a guy, trying to understand women — basically.

Disney has been on a roll as of late, and I’m hoping that Frozen can spread the buttery goodness that they’ve produced in that wake. Right now, that film is scheduled for a November 2013 release.

    Tangled was so much fun, I loved it. And I’m a sucker for animated movies, so this looks awesome.
