Say what you like about director Michael Bay, but there’s no denying that he can turn a phenomenally bad idea into a thing of visual beauty. While the master Baysploder wrapped up work on a third Transformers film and found himself contracted for a fourth, in the interim, he’s been working on a tale of bodybuilders and kidnappings gone wrong. Here’s the first trailer for Pain and Gain.
Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.
What can I say? It looks like signature Bay at play here, with fast scenes, colourful visuals and an explosion or two. I do like the idea of incorporating GoPro camera work as well.
Mark Wahlberg looks solid as the mirror-vain staring lead, while Dwayne Johnson seems to have a much gentler side to him than what his physical exterior implies.
Pain and Gain also stars Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson and Bar Paly, and is out next year April.

I am pleasantly surprised at how much this interests me. Think I will give this one visit on the big screen.

This is possibly the first Michael Bay movie since The Rock that I can honestly say that I really, really want to see.
