Russell Crowe talks MAN OF STEEL, how it differs from past incarnations

It’s just under 5 months left until Zack Snyder tries to get us to believe that a man can fly. In a shiny costume. The verdict so still be out on whether or not the director’s seemingly more dramatic take on the big blue boyscout is actually going to succeed, so who better to hear some reassurances from than Superman’s dad himself, played this time by Russell Crowe.

Besides, Crowe already has some experience with flying. Flying telephones, that is.

Crowe spoke to Reelz about this new vision of what many consider to be the granddaddy of superheroes, and how it differs from what came before.

“It’s very complicated, it’s really complex. I don’t think anybody has really tried to get into the psychology of what it must be like to be Superman and what people would really respond like in a modern society if somebody like that just popped up. I think Zack Snyder was given a great deal of responsibility because when it comes to comic book heroes and superhero films the top of the food chain is Superman. I think the biggest indicator for me of how it’s looking is that the financier of the film has sent me gushing emails, he just loves it.

“I’m really looking foward to seeing it, it’s a massive undertaking. It takes you on the ground to Krypton, it takes you to a planet where the sun is four times larger than ours and you get to experience that stuff and if you’ve seen the trailers you realize that this Superman is not just floating through the air held up by a wire, this Superman is super sonic. I’m really looking forward to the way that people will respond to it.”

Slowly floating through the air? Lots of wire work? Now why does that sound so familiar? *COUGH*everyzacksnydermovieever*COUGH* Man, that’s a nasty and surprisingly intelligible cough.

Cardiovascular systems aside, if there’s one aspect of this new Superman film that I’m really looking forward to, it is the Krypton stuff. Despite Supes’ home planet and even the science behind why Earth’s sun affects Kryptonian genealogy the way it does, already having been explored countless times in the comics, we’ve never seen it on the big screen.

Also, having Superman actually use his powers to do more than just pick up stuff, would certainly be a plus.

Man of Steel flies into cinemas on June 14, 2013.

Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped watching horrible Michael Bay movies, he could be as much of a hardcore film geek as me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a South African movie blog with the man your man could be as big a film geek as. What’s in your hand? Back at me. I have it. It’s a warm box of freshly popped popcorn, butter melted awesomeness wafting in your face just like you like. Look again, the popcorn is now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man stops watching Michael Bay movies. I’m on a horse.

Supes is cool and everything, but I would give my PS3 for them to make a movie of Supergirl / Powergirl instead.

Admit it. You just want to see Powergirl’s boobs in that peek-a-boo cutout top, don’t you? :D

Of what practical use is the top that PowerGirl wears?

Powergirl is one of a very short list of supers that has and uses a company that helps mankind by intorducing alien technology. Something that is quite foreign to a lot of supers which is wierd considering just like her they come across a lot of alien stuff as well. They don’t share it becuase it would mean they are no longer unique or great. Powergirl doesn’t hide behind a “mankind-isn’t-ready-for-this” card. One reason besides her boobs why I like her.
