Take a first look at Anna and Elsa from Disney’s upcoming FROZEN

Disney hit it big in the late eighties with The Little Mermaid, starting a new age of animated films that saw the likes of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Hercules and Mulan released. The last really great film from that stable was Tarzan back in 1999, and subsequent films have been less critically received since then, as Disney piggybacked on the success of Pixar.

But then, in 2010, they reclaimed some of that glory with Tangled, which mixed new and old techniques to create one of the best Disney films seen in years. Fast forward to 2012, and you’ve got the short Paperman cartoon that premiered before Brave, and I’ve got a feeling that Disney may have a second renaissance on the way. And it’s going to be one that might be a tad chilly, by the looks of Frozen.Throw out the concept art and say hello to sisters Anna and Elsa, official renderings of two of the lead characters. Disney is clearly keeping the Tangled palette for this film, albeit one with a touch of the blues. Frozen stars the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel in the mythical tale, as Anna sets off after her enchanted snow queen of a sister to plead with her to stop laying a northern smackdown on the spring and summer seasons.

Alongside her friend Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), the duo are out to save the day. Shenanigans occur, I guess. The film is due out in the wintery month of December this year, and is directed by Chris Buck and Wreck-It Ralph writer Jennifer Lee, with Robert “Book of Mormon” Lopez on musical duties.
