Say what you will about his kooky personal beliefs, but Tom Cruise is a movie money making machine. The man is equally adept at destroying box offices as he is couches. So generally, it would do you good to take notice when then man is doing a new blockbuster. Especially when it’s looking as good as Joseph “Tron: Legacy” Kosinski’s Oblivion.

We’ve already seen two trailers for the sci-fi epic, now we get an explosion and exposition filled third trailer along with a new Spanish poster that shows off Cruise’s not-so-shiny-anymore future duds.

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

That’s certainly a lot more story than was previously revealed. Now story was exactly where Kosinski slipped up on Tron: Legacy, turning it into the coolest and most eye searingly beautiful Daft Punk music video you’ve ever seen. I’m hoping he’s learned his lesson and will avoid some of the pitfalls, as this looks like it has the potential to be a cracker. Also, this may just be the coolest and most eye searingly beautiful M83 music video you’ve ever seen.

This does look good, I’m very curios about the plot and what’s going to happen I’m just… very much not a Tom Cruise fan.

I’m always on the fence with him, but he knows how to deliver the right performance. I was more concerned by the ‘Director of Tron: Legacy’ bit…

I’ve seen him in good parts and I’ve seen him in really bad parts, but if the movie’s plot & other cast are good enough I’m sure I’ll get over it. Will admit, I haven’t seen Tron: Legacy, so I’ve got nothing to compare to.

It would have been good, but lacked any level of soul or real substance. I could never place my finger on what it did wrong, but it reminded me a lot of movies like Wanted – where a director covered their lack of talent with lots of money. Now that I think of it, this may go the same way…
