Extras! Paul Anderson is going to Pompeii, searching for heaven, Batman vs the punisher, Cloudy 2 gets a poster and more!

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Check out the rather “interesting” poster for sexy sex mcsexington thriller movie Open Windows, which stars Sasha Grey and various O-faces from Elijah Wood. Wood plays a voyeur ina  film that takes place entirely on his desktop, as he watches Grey through various windows, hence the title of the film. Hey, me and Wood ain’t so different after all!

While director Paul W.S Anderson doesn’t have any other Resident Evil films up his sleeves right now, he does have something else that will be turning up the heat. He’s looking to bring the tale of Pompeii, the super volcano Vesuvius  back to the big screen. It’ll be set during the actual event, and so far, he’s got Emily “Sucker Punch Browning signed on to star.

Kit “Game of Thrones Harrington is also attached, as he’ll be a slave battling his way out of really bad pay back to Pompei so that he can rescue the love of his life and his galdiator pal at the same time. Expect Anderson’s wife Milla Jovovich to show up in a scantily clad toga while dodging lava-bals in slow motion three-deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

So what’s next for Andy Muschietti? Thanks to Guillermo Del Toro and his horror flick Mama, he’s riding a wave of success in Hollywood. Muschietti may not be too interested in a Mama sequel right now, but he’s pretty keen on taking a peek inside Bird Box.

The Bird Box that relates to the novel of the same name, that deals with the post-apocalypse and which follows a woman and two children who are blindfolded and sent down a river. Also, the book isn’t even out yet. Talk about planning ahead.

It’s early days right now though for this particular project, and if he’s picked up anything from his mentor Del Toro, Muschietti could also have his fingers in various other pies by the time this film rolls around.

Here’s Vin Diesel living his life one streaming buffer at a time, as he talks about his co-stars in the upcoming Fast and Furious 6. Enh, it’s a hump day and I can’t think of anything else witty to add.

It was bittersweet news yesterday finding out that the Netflix season of Arrested Development would be the final outing for the Bluth family. The main cast is back for that show though, and so are a few guest stars. Including Ben Stiller as Job’s arch-nemesis, the magician Tony Wonder.

So what will Stiller be doing with his W-shaped beard? Who knows, but expect…magic! SMOKE BOMB!

Going to the animated side, here’s the first poster for the upcoming Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2. If you love, food and puns, then you’re in for treat. Ha! It’s so easy.

Matthew Vaughn is on for some cosmic-ray powered producing with the Fantastic Four reboot, and it looks like the Fantasticar is picking up some speed on the Josh Trank directing project. Seth “Abraham Lincoln: Campire Hunter” Grahame Smith is now also on board, as he’ll be polishing the script up.

News on the street also hints that the new FF film will be taking a more “grounded” approach to the team. Hopefully this doesn’t mean a gritty style where Doctor Doom runs around killing mobsters and kidnapping the families because of police chiefs, because he believes that it was unfair that RICHARDS! scarred his face.

Keep it fun Marvel, keep it fun.

Ello ello ello, wot’s all this then? Popular British TV show The Sweeney has also been in the remake circuit, as the latest movie starring undercover cops and violent London crimes is out soon. Ray Winstone stars as not so clean cop Jack Regan, in a department that is filled with crooked coppers and bent bobbies.

I wonder if they filmed it here, locally then? Here’s a sneak peek at what to expect, via Coming Soon.

Is there a God? Seeing as how I’ve yet to win the lottery, I’m considering that to be proof that there is at least a Satan out there that is hobbling me in life. Universal Pictures is going to be looking to answer that question, as they’ve optioned the  Eben Alexander penned bestseller, Proof of Heaven, for an adaptation. Dealing with near death experiences, miracles and other supernatural aspects of that ilk, the project has Mary Parent and Cale Boyter on producing duties so far.

 Every great film starts as a script, and most times, those scripts are probably lame. Website Shit Rough Drafts may not have those actual scripts, but they’ve taken a rough guess as to what they might actually look like. Check the link for yourself, or see my favourite one below;

When it comes to animated movies, Studio Ghibli ranks as one of the best studios around to put out consistent masterpieces of weird themes and fantastic animation. Japan recently had a vote on their top nine Ghibli films, with a certain neighborly flick taking the top spot. Here’s the full breakdown, from number 9 to 1:

  • Ponyo
  • Howl’s Moving Castle
  • Porco Rosso
  • Princess Mononoke
  • Kiki’s delivery service
  • Spirited Away
  • Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
  • Castle in the Sky
  • My neighbor Totoro

Personally, I dug Howl’s moving castle the most, but it’s a solid list overall.

And last, but not least, you might have noticed that we dig films that deal with people in spandex ’round these parts. While I won’t cast judgement on Kervyn for that bizarre sub-genre of late night naughty movie watching (Shun!), I still like to think that we have a fair share of hero movie fans here.

But heroes are defined by their villains right? So what happens when said vigilantes decide to cross fists and gadgets in a fight to the death? You get The Batman versus The Punisher, that’s what. Someone call Travolta!
