Season 3 of SHERLOCK begins filming next week

It’s been quite a while since we last saw Sherlock, Watson and a mind palace. Almost two years, in fact. Since then, stars Benedict Cumbermatch and Martin Freeman have broken further into Hollywood, leaving the cinematic episodes with an empty schedule, and more than a few new imitations on the cards from other studios arriving to fill that gap.

The thing is, it might still be a while before we see Sherlock recover from his Reichenbach fall from the end of the second series. But at least that time spent waiting, won’t be fruitless as filming kicks off next week for three more episodes of deduction and sleuthing.

According to Deadline, the Sherlock cast had a read-through of the scripts last week, with shooting starting next week for a rumoured winter release in the UK. Or around our summer to be precise. Paul McGuigan, who directed four out of six episodes, won’t be involved with this season, as each of the three episodes will see a seperate director calling the shots. So far, two of those directors have been confirmed. Colm ” Ripper Street” McCarthy, and Jeremy “In Fear” Lovering are those two helmers for Sherlock.

And the reason why director gamma has yet to be locked in, is because of the incredibly busy schedule that Cumbermatch and Freeman happen to have. They’ve only got time to do two episodes while on a summer break, before they head back to New Zealand for more Hobbit work. Only when they’re done there, will they arrive back to do that third episode.

Still, it should hopefully be worth the wait. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have created the ultimate contemporary version of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle classic, as each episode is a feature length mystery with some cracking good twists, what.

Consider yourself shunned until you correct this massive oversight in your life.

But… but… I need time! And weekends! And I… damn I guess you’re right. I will accept my shunning with dignity and try my best to catch up.
