Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

So you may have seen the news this morning that ex-Fake Fighting Champion Dave Bautista has joined the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Drax the Destroyer. Now out of all of Marvel’s film properties, this is easily the least well known among the non-geek crowd, so some introductions may be necessary. We’ve previously posted a link to a rundown of the cosmic team of superheroes, but we do realize that some folks have a problem with the whole “words” thing *COUGH*darryn*COUGH*, so to make it easier here’s a handy video breakdown of the Guardians of the Galaxy courtesy of IGN.

Here ya go, atheists. Unassailable proof that there is no god. Paul WS Anderson has unsurprisingly confirmed that he will be directing Resident Evil 6. You’re welcome.

So remember that scene in Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man where MJ trips in the school cafeteria, sending the contents of her lunch tray skyward, and Peter uses his new Spidey abilities to not only catch her, but using some cool CGI trickery also catch all the food items absolutely perfectly on the tray, back in their original positions?

Yeah, that wasn’t CGI. Toby Maguire really did that. 156 times. You can read all about it in Cracked’s article on 7 Amazing Movie Special Effects You Won’t Believe Aren’t CGI.

Seth Grahame-Smith, the man responsible for subjecting us to the one-two punch of mediocrity that was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows, may just have begun work on the script for Beetlejuice 2. Grahame-Smith (Not the cricket captain. Please keep up) has met with director Tim Burton and star Michael Keeton a few times to discuss the sequel, but there’s been no concrete forward momentum on the sequel thus far. Last night though, the writer tweeted this photo with the tagline “It’s showtime!”, which either means that he’s about to start working, or he’s showing off his Beetlejuice cosplay.

Oscar winning director Tom Hooper may soon be going from drab to fab, as Deadline is reporting that the Les Miserables helmer may be thinking of reteaming with Sacha Baron Cohen for the as of yet untitled Freddie Mercury biopic. Baron-Cohen has been attached for some time now to play the legendary frontman (that’s not a thinly veiled gay joke) of iconic rock band Queen, but thus far there’s been no other movement on the Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Last King of Scotland, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) scripted film.

If t happens, it will make a nice musical change of pace for Hooper, who must be sick of listening to songs about bread and poverty. Now he gets to hear about more uplifting things like bicycles! And fat bottomed girls!

Fresh from helping to destroy an action movie legacy in A Good Day To Die Hard, Jai Courtney has already found his next role, as he’s joined Neil “Limitless” Burger’s adaptation of YA novel Divergent. The film already has soon to be Spider-Man crush Shailene Woodley in the starring role of Tris, a young lady in a future Chicago where at the age of 16 everybody is divided up into factions based on certain character traits. Tris though is a “divergent”, somebody who doesn’t match with any of the classifications, who discovers a conspiracy to kill off all the folks like her. Courtney is said to be playing Eric, the young leader of one of these factions

There’s a new quad poster out for Pretty Boy-apalooza The Place Beyond the Pines, which sees Ryan Gosling as a bank robbing dad trying to make ends meet, and Bradley Cooper as the ambitious cop trying to catch him and make a name for himself. But because the studio realizes that a gritty crime drama needs to appeal to more than just ladies’ throbbing ovaries, they’ve also thrown Eva Mendes in a pair of torn denim shorts on the poster as well.

It seems like we’re never going to see LARP’ing laugh-fest Knights of Badassdom as the film has been languishing in distribution hell for more than a year now, despite its lead stars’ popularity and the massively positive reception it’s received from fans. And now the plot thickens as a site simply called Badassdom.com appears to have got hold of a letter addressed to the board members of the film’s financiers, IndieVest, which claims that the film’s release is being held up due to internal shady dealings at the financier. Even worse, they are apparently shopping around a cut of the film to studios that is vastly different to director Joe Lynch’s version. You know, the same version that brought the house down at 2011’s Comic Con. Its like these people just don’t want our money.

Staying with Knights of Badassdom, but on a slightly less “lose all faith in humanity” note, a new documentary called Men In Suits is currently in production, which will showcase the work of various actors who have donned prosthetic creature suits for various movies. Two clips from the doccie have been released, and coincidentally they’re focusing on team at Spectral Motion and the practical creature effects they created for Knights of Badassdom.

He’s most recently helped Jessica Chastain get though some mommy issues and now Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will once again be faced with some lady problems. To be fair though, this time it’s totally his fault. Coster-Waldau, along with This is 40 star Leslie Mann, are in talks to star opposite already confirmed Cameron Diaz in The Other Woman. Diaz will play the titular character who discovers that she is actually just a married man’s mistress and joins forces with the wife ( Mann) of said multitasking lover (Coster-Waldau) to get revenge on him. Nick Cassaettes (Alpha Dog, The Notebook, John Q) will be directing the menage trouble.

And yes, I know that this is not quite movie news, but it features Olivia Wilde who is an actress, so there. Besides, I will never pass up an opportunity to laugh at anything Justin Bieber related, in this case, the lovely Miss Wilde appearing on Jay Leno to promote The Wonderful Burt Wonderstone (see it is movie releated!) where she explained how she was trying to give the Biebster some handy advice on Twitter.

I really hope the Freddie Mercury biopic happens, would be awesome and Sasha Baron Cohen is not a bad choice for the role, just a bit too tall.
The Place Beyond The Pines also looks very good, I’m a Ryan Gosling convert, very good movie choices he’s making.
Been waiting Knights of Badassdom for too long already!!!
    Olivier Wilde is pretty sharp!
