When Captain America throws his mighty shield! All those who don’t have a decent screen actor’s agent must yield! I quite enjoyed Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The film looked great, Chris Evans looked and acted the part of a supersoldier and the entire package was just one big fun experience, harkening back to a more optimistic age in filmmaking.
With a sequel on the way, it looks like Cap will be engaging in more modern adventures though. And it looks like he’ll be bringing a few new friends with him, including Mr Sundance Festival himself, Robert Redford.
Reford is currently in talks to join the sequel, in a role that has been otherwise unspecified so far. According to Deadline though, it sounds like he’ll be directing the action from behind the SHIELD helicarrier, as a replacement for Agent Coulson.
Doesn’t sound like too much of a stretch for the veteran actor, but another comic book role also springs into mind when taking a look at him: Dum Dum Dugan. Dugan appeared in the first Captain America film, played by Neal McDonough, but it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to slap a ginger mosutache and a hat on Reford, and tell him to get into character.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier sees the return of the first Avenger, as he tracks his wartime partner Bucky who has reemerged as a Cold War assassin, while also struggling to fit into our new world. Chris Evans wields the shield again, and he’ll be joined by Cobie Smulders, Emily VanCamp, Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo, with Anthony and Joe Russo directing.
It’s out next year April.
