Matt Damon shows off his exoskeleton in the new poster for ELYSIUM

I have been waiting at Neill Blomkamp’s table for any Elysium scraps for a very long time now, and when it was announced that its release would be moving from March to August 2013, it was a heavy blow indeed as the mystery and the quiet hype around the film has been getting to me since Day 1. Well, finally we have a poster to look at!

Well, let’s not waste any more time! Here’s the poster:

If you have been living under a rock since the success of District 9, Neill Blomkamp’s next sci-fi film is promising to be fantastic and I really hope it will be able to live up to the hype. I’ve put my trust in our favourite Die Antwoord fan, and Elysium being a success will surely label him as one of the top sci-fi directors in Hollywood today.

All I know is, that Matt Damon’s exoskeleton looks pretty damn cool, and while I doubt he will encounter any prawns, I have quite a lot of confidence in the fact that he will find quite a few things to stomp on. The prospect of him up against Sharlto Copley’s Kruger is almost too much awesome to handle.

Here’s the synopsis from Comingsoon as well as two more pics that were released yesterday.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Yeah…I’m calling it now. This is going to be 2013’s blockbuster. Anyone else agree?

  1. This could either be a massive pile of shit or utterly awesome. I’m reserving judgement but Devin Faraci’s tweet last night about getting excited for the footage makes me hopeful.

Also, Jodie Foster and Matt Damon probably won’t sign on for something if it looks to be a piece of shit.

    So colour me interested

Yeah, officially excited. Also, Blomkamp did such an awesome job on District 9 I can’t imagine how he could cock this up.
