Two new films hit the North American charts this past weekend. On the one fast hand, you had the tale of segregation in American baseball, while on the sleazier hand you had yet another Scary Movie arriving to bring the franchise to new lows presumably.

But could either them oust current kings of the tickets, GI Joe: Retaliation and The Croods from their money-making spots? Actually, yes, yes they could.42 scored a homerun at the box office plate despite not being about the answer to the greatest question in the universe, batting in with a respectable $27 million and beating Scary Movie 5 back into second place. As for the latest movie in that franchise which is currently getting critically hammered worse than Charlie Sheen’s testicles in the trailer, that one has seen a massive drop in popularity so far.

Scary Movie 4 may have been just as bad, but it still managed to make over $40 million during its initial debut weekend. GI Joe: Retaliation on the other hand, dropped two slots and lost about close to %50 in revenue when compared to the previous week, and that’s the bottom line, because the Rock said so. Here’s a look at how everyone else did.

  • 42 – $27.2 Million
  • Scary Movie 5  – $15.1 Million
  • The Croods  – $13.2 Million
  • GI Joe: Retaliation  – $10.8 Million
  • Evil Dead  – $9.5 Million
  • Jurassic Park  – $8.8 Million
  • Olympus Has Fallen  – $7.2 Million
  • Oz The Great and Powerful  – $4.9 Million
  • Tyler Perry’s Temptation  – $4.5 Million
  • The Place Beyond The Pines  – $4 Million

Departures this week from the top ten include Halle Berry’s The Call, Tina Fey’s Admission and Stephanie Meyers not-Twilight film, The Host. Faith in humanity: restored.
