It's official: Blade is going to be an Expendable! And Stallone still hoping for a Gibson long shot

Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson have a lot in common. They’re both from a much more macho era of filmmaking and they both famously attacked a Russian once. So it was serendipitous when we brought you the news yesterday that Sly was thinking of getting Mel involved behind the camera for The Expendables 3. But what about in front of the camera? Which classic ass kicker would Stallone bring back this time?

How about a half-vampire, frequent flyer miles accumulating  badass whose only known weakness is tax law?

In those same series of tweets in which Sly mentioned the fact that he would try to get Gibson to direct the next film, he also dropped this bombshell.

@TheSlyStallone: “Wesley Snipes is BACK!!!! … …with US.”

Snipes has just recently been released from prison where he served 28 months of a 3 year prison sentence for tax evasion. Well that’s the official story, at least. I think this was just the greatest piece of method acting we’ve ever seen, all in preparation for another Undisputed sequel.

Whatever his reasons for spending the last two years and change in the slammer, the fact is that even before his incarceration Snipes was quickly going the way of Steven Segal, only appearing in the type of direct to video movies that usually also stars some rapper trying his hand at acting. He needs start making some big movies with A-list casts again and indeed, with this news, appears to be wasting no time in getting back to his Hollywood leading action man ways.

Much like Snipes, Gibson could certainly also do with a little Expendable help in his career. He may not have ended up bunking with Bubba, but after some less than politically correct, borderline insane rants, he’s seen himself turned into a bit of a social pariah, with a number of his planned projects stalling out completely. But none of that changes the fact that Gibson is still quite a talented filmmaker, something that Stallone definitely knows.

@TheSlyStallone: “Mel is a MAGNIFICENT director! Pure passion on every level . we’d be blessed to have him.. A REAL long shot, but LIFE is a long shot -right?”

Stallone and Gibson have never worked together despite their careers running almost in parallel, so it would be cool to see how the two old dogs collaborate. This would be the second time that Snipes would star opposite Stallone though, after the pair helped destroy future LA in the 1993 sci-fi actioner Demolition Man.

No, we still don’t know how to use the three shells either.

  1. My favorite Wesley Snipes movie quote of all time:

“Sit yo 5 dollar ass down, before I make change”.

    LOL.

      I’d have to go with:

      “There’s always one motherf@#$er trying to ice-skate uphill!|
