Well here’s one movie which came out of nowhere to dispense some ghostly justice and slap an afterlife sentence on offenders. RIPD has been cooking for a while now, attracting some top notch talent in the apparitions of Mary-Louise Parker, Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds.

It’s MIB but with a supernatural twist and a lot more colour. Here’s that first trailer.

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.

Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.

Not bad at all by the early looks of things. While Reynolds will most likely be sticking to his usual style of acting, it’s obviously Bridges here that’s going to be stealing scenes as wild west lawman Roy Pulsifer. Mary-Louise Parker looks like a hoot with her dry performance and the overall visuals look pretty decent, for those of you that are into watching movies in three dees.

R.I.P.D is out , and also stars  Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, Robert Knepper, James Hong, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley and Devin Ratray, with directing Robert “RED” Schwentke directing.
