You can’t go anywhere these days without bumping into some form of Gypsey-based entertainment. Much the same way that cars rely on fossil fuels for locomotion, using the Traveller community in a slew of various TV shows has proven to be a cheap money-maker for reality TV.
So it was only a matter of time until a Gypsey movie pulled up its caravan and parked permanently for a full movie experience. Behold, the King of the Travellers!
In the Travelling community, a young man must put his past behind him and settle a long running feud between two families so he can be with the love of his life.
So by the looks of things, it’s Romeo and Juliet, but with more caravans. And shotguns. And squatting on private property. It’s clear that the crew involved with this flick is going for a trailer in the style of Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, but something tells me that while King of the Travellers may be a passable action flick, it won’t be anywhere near as enduring as that particular slice of British crime.
It’s currently out in the UK, and the critics haven’t been too kind. Expect to see it on DVD any day now.
