There aren’t that many famous Danes in Hollywood. In fact, I can really only think of one. Luckily for Denmark’s pride though one is enough, as Mads Mikkelsen is essentially Brad Pitt, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Daniel Day Lewis all rolled into one.  He’s currently eating TV viewers brains with some fava beans and a chianti over on NBC’s “Hannibal” but he’ll soon be chewing scenery in The Hunt, an intense looking drama that has been racking up the film festival praise all over.

“The Hunt” is a disturbing depiction of how a lie becomes the truth when gossip, doubt and malice are allowed to flourish and ignite a witch-hunt that soon threatens to destroy an innocent man’s life.

Mads Mikkelsen plays Lucas, a former school teacher who has been forced to start over having overcome a tough divorce and the loss of his job. Just as things are starting to go his way, his life is shattered. An untruthful remark throws the small community into a collective state of hysteria. The lie is spreading and Lucas is forced to fight a lonely fight for his life and dignity.

When a trailer starts with pasty man boobs and beer swilling revelry, it usually means that somebody let Will Ferrell make another movie, but this time it leads to a pretty hectic trailer. I’ve been keeping an eye on The Hunt as I’m a bit of a Mikkelsen fanboy, and critics have all been saying… well, you saw what they were saying in the trailer, which makes me very eager to watch this.

The Hunt currently has an international release date of July 12, 2013, but there’s no local date yet.
