I’m not going to crack too many jokes or wax too much lyrics about how bloody awesome (and I mean that literally; it’s both bloody and awesome) the first two installments of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Cornetto trilogy is. You’ve all seen Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. You already know how good they are. What you want to know is how good The World’s End, the final film in the trilogy, is going to be?

Well judging from this crazy trailer, I think that this may just blow those films out of the blood-tinted water.

Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

That looks rather insane. And completely in a good way! Co-writers and director and lead actor respectively, Wright and Pegg seem to have taken what worked so well in the first two flicks (off the wall humour, and in the case of one gag with a fence, through the wall humour) and turned it all up to 11. We have Invasion of the Body Snatchers types of townsfolk with alien tripods and more.

Wright has said that each pub’s name ties into some of the calamities that the guys will face there, so with names like The Two-Headed Dog, The Mermaid and, worryingly, The Famous Cock (attack of the Simon Cowells?), you be sure that we’re in for one hell of a ride.

The World’s End will downing a pint in cinemas on July 19, 2013

Cool, two thumbs up. But I’m biased – I liked Paul too…

Paul wasn’t bad at all. Not quite up to the par of some of Pegg and Frost’s other works, but definitely not bad.

I really enjoyed Paul, not sure why so many hated on it.
