Are we too obsessed with sequels? World War Z hasn’t even come out yet and already Brad Pitt and co. are talking about what they want to do in the follow-ups. Time and time again this happens in Hollywood.
So today we want to know how you feel about the film studios counting their chickens before they hatch? Do you just accept it as part of the movie-making process today? Or does it irritate you as an example of studios thinking they can rush out mediocrity because they believe they can always improve on it later? Let us know.

It irritates me, because it smacks of arrogance. Also leads me to believe that the movie will not have a satisfactory ending because they’re planning for it to launch a franchise.

Well, James Cameron comes to mind. Avatar 2 isn’t even pre-production and there’s talk of 3 and 4.

This is hardly a hallmark of today’s movies. Sequels have been popular since the Seventies. There were nine Elm Streets and eight Hellraisers. Three Porky’s and seven Police Academies. There were three Shafts, not counting the remake, and four Jaws films. There were six Star Wars films and twelve Star Trek movies.

Does it irritate me that people talk about wanting to do more of something they must have enjoyed doing in the first place and/or that they anticipate being successful? No, it really doesn’t.
