Ever since Twilight reached pedophilic housewife fan club status, we’ve had YA adaptations coming out of the woodwork to try and replicate that success. You can’t take two steps in Hollywood without stepping into one nowadays. And no that implied poop analogy was not by accident. Most of them are crap, is what I’m saying.
And now the latest to try its hand at making some Twilight money is The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which seems to run the gamut of YA cliches, from the loner heroine with a funny name, discovering her secret past straight to the impossibly attractive “teens” who can all suddenly do kung fu the moment they become supernatural beings.
Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will be hitting cinemas on August 21, 2013.
