We start off today with some Transformers news and thank the All-Spark its not just a picture of another car. Instead, here’s a really cool time lapse video showing the construction of “Transformers: The Ride – 3D” at Universal Studios Florida.
The Minions, those yellow cyclopean critters from Despicable Me are getting their own spinoff movie, and every movie, spinoff or otherwise, needs its own synopsis!
The Minions, breakout stars from “Despicable Me,” are presented in an origin story that showcases their unpredictable personality and physicality, and pairs them with equally memorable human characters. As it turns out, Minions have existed since the beginning of time. They have evolved from single (yellow) cell organisms into the familiar beings we know, and they live for a collective purpose: to seek out and serve the most despicable master they can find. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock will lead the voice cast of the human characters as Scarlett Overkill, the world’s reigning super-villain of the 1960s.
After proving that foul mouthed girls can be funny with Bridesmaids, director Paul Feig will next set to prove that they can also be super-sneaky. Feig is developing a female led spy movie titled Susan Cooper, that is being set up as a possible franchise at 20th Century Fox. While described as an action comedy, it’s still being touted as not being a spy-spoof at all, but rather a serious female answer to James Bond.
Cue lipstick laser jokes in 3…2…1…
A new – and very colourful – international poster for Kick-Ass 2 has dropped.
“Hi, this is Morgan Freeman. Did you know that if you read this article about how I will be joining Scarlett Johannson in the Luc Besson directed sci-fi flick, Lucy, a story about a female drug mule who gains superpowers after accidentally ingesting all the chemicals she’s carrying, that you will totally read this last paragraph in my voice?”
While we still have no idea which actor/actress will be the stars of horny housewives’ dreams for the next couple of years, we do have our first bit of development on badly written Twilight porn erotic adaptation, Fifty Shades of Grey. Sam Taylor-Johnson, best known for her 2009 drama Nowhere Boy, about the boyhood friendship between John Lennon and Paul McCartney, has been hired by Focus Features to direct.
Here’s what she had to say about landing the gig:
“I am excited to be charged with the evolution of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ from page to screen. For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”
There’s a new TV spot out for supernatural action comedy R.I.P.D. that features a few new snippets of footage and Jeff Bridges still talking like Col. Sanders holding in a fart.
And in news that absolutely nobody saw coming, Ken Levine, creator of the acclaimed videogame franchise Bioshock, has been tapped to script the long in development Logan’s Run remake. The film most recently lost director Nicolas Winding-Refn and star Ryan Gosling, only the latest in a long list of names of filmmakers who joined and then left the production.
We’ve seen the concept art and a couple of grainy shots apparently taken from a Nokia 5210 on the other side of the city, in a snowstorm, but now we have our first clear shots of Chris Evan’s new costume for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Well, sort of. As that beady-eyed, rather less muscular guy in the loose-fitting top is a stunt double, but you get the general idea.
Universal Pictures are apparently big fans of hand-me-downs. After Warner Bros decided to give Dumb and Dumber To the boot last week, Universal have now picked up the long gestating Farrelly Bros’ comedy sequel. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are also now locked into return.
Speaking of locks, news has also come in that the studio have optioned a feature film adaptation of Locke and Key, Joe Hill’s (that’s Stephen King’s son, by the way) acclaimed supernatural comic book series from IDW Publishing that was once positioned as a TV series on Fox. A pilot was produced and aired at Comic-Con to much fanfare, but Fox eventually passed on it.
Transformers and Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be producing the film alongside IDW CEO Ted Adams.
