You know, it;s hard to not love Michael J Fox. Parkinson’s, campaigning and all that jazz aside, the man is one hell of an actor, having hidden his affliction away from audiences for several years while on the political sitcom Spin City.
Since then, he’s pretty much been out of the picture, with an appearance here and there. But he’s coming back to television soon, with the Michael J Fox show. It looks original, intelligent and comes without a laugh track. In other words, only one season of it will most likely ever be produced.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Mike Henry had to give up his career as a news anchor and focus on his health and his family. Five years later, Mike decides to get back to work and struggles between family and career.
Look, it’s the kind of premise that has been seen a dozen times before, but this time, it’s the execution of said idea that is appealing. Decent cinematogrophy, some good jokes and Fox not being afraid to actually make light of his condition while being openly honest with how itimpacts ons him and his TV family, make it stand out for me.
And honestly, I’d rather have a show like this than the regular laugh-tracked crap on TV like Mike and Molly and The Big Bang Theory.
