Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Wolverine is the best he is at what he does, and what he does – as all comic book geeks will tell you – is show up in an impossible amount of comic book titles simultaneously. And apparently his supernatural multitasking is not only resigned to the comic book page. Along with the James Mangold directed big budget The Wolverine coming out soon, the crazy Canadian will also be starring in a new motion comic animated movie based on the 2001 Wolverine: Origin title and there’s a new trailer out for it.

Looks like Sam Rockwell to be Marvel-ous again. The actor, who played unscrupulous industrialist Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2, says that he wouldn’t mind popping up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again, even if that’s on TV.

“Ah! I was hoping to come back in one of the Avengers films and come after Gwyneth Paltrow, because that’s what they set up, that I was going to get revenge on Gwyneth for getting me arrested or something. I could do a Cape Fear thing with Gwyneth. But they’ve got a lot of mojo in there already, so I don’t know if they need another pirate like me in the mix there! [Laughs.] Maybe S.H.I.E.L.D. is the way to go.”

As you can see by this new poster for JOBS, some see what’s possible, others change what’s possible. After taking huge amounts of drugs forcing everything to turn into a kaleidoscope of colours and oh, look a dragon!

We’ve written a fair amount about Pacific Rim‘s pre-release marketing woes. The film seems to have the geek fraternity in a permanently orgasmic state, whereas everybody else thinks it’s a new Transformers movie. That may all just change, due to none other than Hip Hop star and funny baby namer, Kanye West.

West apparently got to see a preview screening of the film, loved it and promptly tweeted about it. Tweets that at the time of writing this had been retweeted approximately 7000 and 5000 times respectively.

Now the countdown begins to when West bum rushes the stage on Oscar night.

As The Equalizer, Denzel Washington is the man you need to call if you have a problem that you just can’t solve. Just don’t call him now. Maybe five months later. That work for you?

It seems that Columbia Pictures has pushed back director Antoine Fuqua’s feature film remake of the hit 80’s TV series from April 11, 2014 to September 26, 2014.

While Man of Steel has proven to be a bit divisive among critics, if there’s one aspect of the film that makes both sides of the argument join hands and sing “Kumbaya”, it’s definitely Antje Traue’s glacier cool turn Zod’s second-in-command Faora Ul. Here’s the German born actress explaining the motivations behind her character. Or something. Honestly, I wouldn’t know as I was just staring into those baby blues of hers.

If you thought Guillermo Del Toro was just all about the giant robot face punching and cats in the apocalypse, then you must have forgotten about Crimson Peak, the director’s upcoming haunted house tale, which is a very different movie. For one thing, it’s a bit kinky.

“CRIMSON PEAK is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven. It’s an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I’ve done in the English language. Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for Blade or whatever. This movie’s tone is scary and it’s the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies. The thing I do in those movies is re-contextualization, take a movie and then move it into a completely different place. Like a Gothic and then move it into the Spanish Civil War [THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE]. This is a Gothic romance, haunted house, in the north of England.”

(CRIMSON PEAK) Has moments that are very visceral, physical violence. You’re in this sort of sedate romance and then there is this brutal moment where you’re like, “Whoa!”  And it has a lot of kinky moments. The only kinky moment I’ve ever shot is the leg f*ck in THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE.  [laughs]  This has a little more kinkiness than that.

If the early Lone Ranger reviews are anything to go by, it would appear that having a bad makeup job and sticking a dead bird on your head is not always going to get you the praise. Somehow though, I doubt that this will be enough to stop Johnny Depp from making weird faces any time soon.

Although not planned that way, there are currently two Hollywood films in development that feature the currently hospitalized  Nelson Mandela. We’ve seen a bit from the Idris Elba starring Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom but we’ve heard or seen very little from Winnie Mandela, the new production that focuses on the political leader’s sometime controversial ex-wife, which will see singer turned actress Jennifer Hudson in the title role, while Terrence Howard will play Madiba himself.

Now a new synopsis for the film has finally been released, giving us a better insight into the direction it would take.

“Winnie Mandela” explores the personal and political life of the wife of renowned activist and former South African President, Nelson Mandela (Terrence Howard). The film tells the compelling story of one woman’s journey as she fights for the freedom of the man she loves and for the freedom of her people during the Apartheid era. Winnie Mandela depicts the struggle to keep the Mandela dream alive amidst her husband’s life imprisonment, her own time in solitary confinement, and her battle to overcome controversies that followed her through the years.

I read a lot of comics. A lot. But I tend to skip movie prequel comics as generally, they, well… suck. It’s also rare that the story found in these blatant cash-ins have any true bearing on the actual movie they’re promoting. Now note, I said “rare” not never, as occasionally they can actually flesh out the movie world a bit. And since we’re still in a very lazy, no-braining mood thanks to that above flowchart, it’s a good thing that Empire have taken the time to list all the movie tie-in comics to recent major films, and telling us exactly which ones to read and which ones to  avoid.

The day you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. You can finally get a decent night’s right instead of laying awake all night praying to Jesus/Allah/Tom Cruise to tell whatever happened to Ricky Bobby, the greatest NASCAR driver to ever get a movie. Adam McKay, director of the Will Ferrell classic, Talladega Nights: The Balad of Ricky Bobbyrevealed in a special “Where Are They Now?” issue of Sports Illustrated exactly what happened to Ferrell’s character after the credits rolled on-screen.

Unfortunately, it was all downhill for Bobby after his footrace to the finish in the Talladega 500. Bobby suffered a series of downgrades in sponsors, going from driving the Coke car to the Herbal Essences car to the Bear Stearns car.

But it was his tribute to catch-can man Alfred Ah, after a top-five finish at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, that brought Bobby’s racing career to an end.

Bobby yelled, “I want to give a huge thank you to Al Ah! Those that don’t recognize Al Ah are my enemy!!”

The crowd booed.

And now Bobby and his friend Cal Naughton Jr. run RB’s Smoke and Toke shop in Keneshaw, Ky., where they sell “quality water pipes and vaporizers,” for use with tobacco products.

This past week saw one of the most important moments in the history of the Gay rights movement in America, as the US Supreme Court kicked the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s controversial Proposition 8 to the curb. This was a momentous event, with some serious ramifications. Which of course meant that it’s the perfect thing for those guys at Funny or Die to make fun of. And with that, I give you World War G!
