Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Confession time: I’ve seen a grand total 0.5 episodes of Breaking Bad. Yes, I know this puts me somewhere between lawyers who slurp their coffee in public and pedophiles who are also telemarketers, but I have a plan to redeem myself now that I got Netflix going at home. And while I try to figure where I’m going to find the time 54 episodes of a show, the rest of you Heisenberg fans can get off on this new trailer for the show’s final few episodes.

After he bailed on Robopocalypse earlier in the year, it seems that Steven Spielberg is pulling a… well, Steven Spielberg as the director has withdrawn from the Bradley Cooper led American Sniper. There’s no reason been given as to why Spielberg has called it quits on the autobiographical tale of Chris Kyle, the deadliest marksman in US military history, but if I had to hazard a guess I would say it has something to do with the one million and eleventy-one different film, TV and videogame projects he’s currently involved in.

If you were looking to get your annual dose of Vitamin Loki in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, then I have some bad news for you, as actor Tom Hiddleston has confirmed that the upcoming Thor: The Dark World will be the last place we see the god of mischief, as he and writer/director Joss Whedon thinks that the character’s story has been told now. But don’t worry, Hiddleston is not bummed by the fact that he won’t be back to take on his half-brother’s get-along gang again.

“When I think of all the things I loved as a child, for example, Hans Gruber wasn’t in Die Hard 2. And in Indiana Jones, by the time he moved from the Lost Ark to the Temple of Doom, there was a whole new bad guy. I think keeping it fresh and new is good for The Avengers even though it’s a shame for me.”

Despite being a movie about a sex-addict, this new poster for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon is just the cutest. I mean, everybody does love a happy endi-WAITAMINUTE!?

Rashida Jones and Matt Bomer have joined B.O.O. No, they haven’t joined Chris Chameleon’s old band, I’m talking about B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, the new animated flick from Dreamworks that will see the respective Parks & Rec and White Collar stars join the already established voice cast of Seth Rogen and Melissa McCarthy. The film is about a super secret government agency staffed by ghosts setup to protect humans from evil hauntings and will follow “two new agents, Jackson Moss (voiced by Seth Rogen) and his oddball partner Watts (McCarthy) as they uncover a plot by the agency’s Most Wanted Haunter to destroy B.O.O. They must use every trick in their arsenal to defeat his powerful ghost army and save Earth from a ghostly fate,” and this movie is totally nothing like Ryan Reynold’s RIPD. Totally.

After uhm-ing and ah-ing for the last few months, it’s finally official: Chris McQuarrie will be directing Mission: Impossible 5.

McQuarrie last directed series star Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher so the relationship has already been established, which should make things much easier. Also McQuarrie is a fantastic writer (Usual Supects anyone?) and I rather enjoyed Jack Reacher, but I’m just not sure if his hard-nosed, no-nonsense directing style would be a good fit for M:I5. Especially as he’ll have to follow the superbly explosive effort from director Brad Bird in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Oh internet, how I love you! It’s taken just one day since Peter Capaldi was announced as the new Doctor and somebody has already made a mashup trailer for Doctor Who and In the Loop, the 2009 satirical comedy starring Capaldi’s most famous character Malcolm Tucker. As I mentioned previously, Tucker is quite the potty-mouth, so this is quite NSFW. Unless of course, you’re a sailor, in which case, carry on as you were.

There’s a rumour going around that G.I. Joe helmer Jon M. Chu is set to take over the directing reins from JJ Abrams on Star Trek 3, on account of Abrams being so busy with Star Wars. This rumour is total bunk, according to Chu’s reps. Well the part about his involvement I mean, Abrams really is too busy to direct. And according to another rumour, Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt is “virtually a lock at this stage in the game” to replace him. No word yet on the bunkiness of that story. What is confirmed though, is that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who penned the previous two installments along with Damon Lindelof, will be returning to render their writing services for the third outing.

Disney and Marvel are up to something, something weird. All will apparently be revealed at the Disney D23 Expo, but my guess is they’re just going to show a pic of Darryn in the shower. Oh the horror.

This weekend, only at the Walt Disney Parks & Resorts pavilion during the Disney D23 2013 Expo, ask for something WEIRD and get your first look at an all-new project coming from Marvel & Disney!

John Leguizamo’s already played one comic book clown in Spawn, but it would seem that he’d be open to playing another: The Joker.

“I am not against comic-book movies. I just feel that I have seen enough zombies, vampires and apocalyptic comic-book super heroes in my lifetime. I want to see real people on screen for a while. But hell yeah, I would do Batman. The Joker would be a blast!”

He went to explain that it could be a big deal for more than just his career if he, a Latino, were to play the role. Especially since it was a fellow Latino actor, Cesar Romano, who first truly brought the character to life on-screen in the old Adam West Batman TV series.

“Just because I have to represent for my Latin people. It’s crazy. I went to Comic-Con and 50% of the nerds were Latin, Black and Asian. I said “Come on! We are so underrepresented and we support the whole industry.”

John Leguizamo as the Joker? I could dig it.

Out of all the stupid amount of geektastic movies coming out in 2015, Foodles has to be top of my list. Never heard of Foodles? Of course you have! It’s apparently the production shooting alias being used for Star Wars: Episode VII. Aliases are often used by big production so as to hide production details from snooping press. Clearly, this doesn’t work very often. Along with the report of the film’s production alias, also comes the claim that only are Disney/Lucasfilm definitely using Pinewood Studios to shoot the highly anticipated new film, but they have apparently block-booked the studio lot for the next ten years. That’s a whole lot of Star Wars.

Every year, when the San Diego Comic-Con rolls around, I get all sad that my numerous get rich quick schemes haven’t panned out (I really don’t know why snoek flavoured edible panties never caught on!), giving me the funds to visit what has essentially become Geek Mecca. One day though, I will be there. And when I get there, I won’t touch the shoulders of any female cosplayers. Don’t know what I’m on about? Then check out this hilarious rap video from comedian Eric Schwarts aka Smooth-E as he exposes the stinky side of Comic-Con.
