Bradley Cooper is back on the bicycle as a RED BLOODED AMERICAN

You know what they say: If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again and take enough performance enhancing drugs to make a rhino do the ballet. This determination seems to be the mindset of Bradley Cooper (well, not the PED part) who had previously been attached to play disgraced doping cyclist Lance Armstrong for the JJ Abrams/Paramount produced Cycle of Lies. That didn’t quite work out, opening the door for Stephen Frears to mount his own Armstrong biopic with the recently cast Ben Foster to play the defrocked 7-times Tour De France champion.

But now Cooper is getting back into the Armstrong race again as he is looking to produce and star in Red Blooded American for Warner Bros, yet another Armstrong pic. Damn, with so many doping athletes, I’d swear I was in the WWE.

This new project from Cooper is being directed by Jay Roach (The Campaign, Meet the Parents) and boasts a script from regular Steven Soderbergh collaborator Scott Z. Burns (Side Effects, Contagion) but unlike the other competing projects, this project may not actually shine the spotlight exclusively on Armstrong.

According to the reports from Deadline, Burns’ script will focus more on Armstrong’s former teammate Tyler Hamilton, who was actually the one who came forward to initially expose Armstrong’s doping on a 60 Minutes special. Armstrong denied the charges at the time (and every single other time, until, you know, he didn’t) and Hamilton ended up being vilified and ostracized by Armstrong and co for “breaking what had been a closed circle.”

It’s still uncertain at this stage just which of the two men Cooper is looking to play, Armstrong or Hamilton, but expect confirmation on that soon as it’s said that WB are looking to fast track the film. Till will tell which of these three individual projects will end up taking the yellow jersey.
