True story: British actors have made for some of the best American superheroes as of late. While Christian Bale has passed the mantle of the cowl onto Ben Affleck, currently, Superman is still being played by the British actor Henry Cavill, and will continue to do so for quite a while. But one comic book character in these films that should always be handled by a UK thespian?
That would have to be Batman’s trusty butler, Alfred Pennyworth. And in Batman vs Superman, it looks like James Bond might be stitching the dark knight up in that upcoming Superman sequel.
Nope, it’s not Sean Connery, even though I wouldn’t mind seeing that happen. Instead, Timothy Dalton is rumoured to have been approached for the role. According to Cosmic Book News and their DC source, Dalton has been offered the role. In addition, Dalton’s Alfred will be a departure from the current incarnation of the character, with different ideas being thrown around for him.
Take it with a pinch of salt though, I recommend. Still, I’d like to see how Dalton would handle the role. The former Bond has a Shakespearean quality to his acting, and is usually intense. Which could translate into an interesting Alfred.
That, and he rocks a pretty mean mustache, something that no other actor portraying the butler has managed to accurately pull off.

Ah yes, it’s important to employ a proper butler so he can mend the Batman once I break him in half.

I must say, Bane, clearly you’ve been taking elocution lessons, because you’re much easier to understand now.

You are reading the transcript, hence the ability to understand him

If I typed like I spoke it would be with broken fingers. People normally can’t understand me. But when I speak to them directly my voice becomes as clear as the sound of a neck snapping.

Good point. But before you do that, don’t forget to pick up Talia al Ghul’s laundry…

I’m kind of used to Michael Cain but hey that wouldn’t be a bad choice.

Mr Dalton is well versed in the manor and proper etiquette befitting a gentleman. Once Gotham burns I will employ him

I think he’d be an excellent choice.

Neat. And if things go wrong, he can easily fill in for Batman.
