Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

So I’ve been blowing Vin Diesel’s horn a lot lat- Wait. Let me rephrase. I’ve been saying a lot of nice things about Vin Diesel lately, mainly as a result of the awesome revelations of how much Diesel fought to get the latest Riddick film made. This was after the second film, Chronicles of Riddick, bombed at the box office. It’s a film that’s always been a guilty pleasure of mine, as I simply love all the world building and mythology that happens there. Apparently not everybody was enamoured as I was though, which is why you get video detailing everything wrong with the Chronicles of Riddick in 8 minutes or less. Did I say “detailing”? I meant “seriously nitpicking”.

Turns out that we really were close to seeing Batbrolin instead of Batfleck. Josh Brolin has confirmed the rumours that he was indeed being considered by Zack Snyder to don the cape and cowl in Batman VS Superman, before Ben Affleck and co-starring buttchin showed up.

“We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack [Snyder], that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.”

What’s he’s not happy for though, was the insane outrage – complete with petitions and the obligatory homicidal and homophobic slurs – that erupted on the internet at the news of Affleck’s casting.

“I’ve never seen such a global reaction in my life. I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like, ‘Fuck this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.’”

Speaking of people being rumoured to wear Halloween costumes, Latino Review is claiming they know who the top contenders are to play the Flash in the upcoming Warner Bros TV series. Apparently young actors James Mackay and Matt Barr are the names on top of the list for Scarlet Speedster.

No, I don’t have any idea who they are either. Click the link, there’s pickchas.

EW has a couple new totally not messed up I promise shots of Daniel Radcliffe in Horns, the new film from Alexandra Aja based on the totally not messed up I promise novel from Joe Hill (aka Stephen King’s son). Now I know that that’s supposed to be a horn growing out of his forehead, but am I the only that thinks it looks like his face is taking a dump?

Speaking of exHarry Potter stars now getting stuff in their heads, Emma Watson has once again joined Your Voice in My HeadWatson was previously attached to star back when Harry Potter director David Yates was attached, but then left the project earlier in the year. Italian-American director Francesca Gregorini had since climbed aboard and now Watson is also back. The film, which is being adapted by acclaimed novelist Emma Forrest from her own New York times bestseller, tells the “inspirational story of a young bipolar English woman living in New York and the heroic, selfless psychiatrist who saves her life while fighting for his own.”

Congratulations, new international banner for Thor: The Dark World, you definitely win the Who’s Got the Best Red Cape competition for today.

Judging from the incredible reception that Ron Howard’s Rush is receiving, it seems that there’s something for everybody in the movie, straight from the god of thunder (take that, Tom Cruise racing movie from the 1990’s!) driving a car real fast to an epic soundtrack from my favourite movie composer Hans Zimmer. And now you don’t even have to wait for the film’s 4 October release date to experience the latter.

Before it was released, World War Z looked it would take an axe to the head upon release. Not only did it not crash and burn, but its unexpected success gave Paramount enough reasons – 596 million reasons, to be exact –  to greenlight a sequel. Star/producer Brad Pitt spoke about where they are in the process of making that sequel happen.

“We’re certainly talking about it, yeah. We have so many ideas on the table from just the time we spent developing this thing and figuring out how zombie worlds work. We have so many ideas and so much information, we think we have a lot of stuff to mine from. We’re going to do our best and see what we get out of it.”

When Benedict Cumberbatch had to leave Benicio Del Toro’s Crimson Peak (prompting some crazy rumours), some people were worried about who Del Toro would find to replace the charismatic, insanely talented and fan favourite Englishman. Proving though, that sometimes you just have go with what you know, Del Toro has found another charismatic, insanely talented and fan favourite Englishman. Tom “I will have my revenge one day, Hulk!” Hiddleston will be replacing Benedict Cumberbatch in the “classical gothic romance ghost story” that will see him and Jessica Chastain star as aristocratic siblings. Hopefully the “romance” part is not between them.

Talk about method acting. Jim Carrey revealed on WhoSay just how he’s truly getting back into the character of Lloyd Christmas for long in development sequel Dumb and Dumber To. Carrey’s character in the cult favourite 1994 comedy had a badly chipped tooth (a real life injury that Carrey had experienced before shooting began on the film), but which he has since had repaired. To prepare for the new film though, he’s had the cap removed again.

And now I’m going to have nightmares of a giant, snaggletoothed Jim Carrey mouth trying to eat me tonight.

Jennifer Lopez is a go for the The Boy Next Door. No, the actress is not suddenly turning pedophile, but she will be starring in Blumhouse Productions’ latest thriller. The film is directed by Rob Cohen, who last helmed Alex Cross. So yeah. If you’re still interested after reading that then, you will probably want to know that it will see Lopez as “a newly separated mother who begins an affair with a new teenage neighbor who befriends her son. Trouble ensues, however, when she tries to abruptly end the relationship.”

Did you know that yesterday was actually National Grandparents Day in the USA? That’s just one of the things I learned from these fake PSA’s made for the new Jackass feature film Bad Grandpa. Unfortunately, I also learned what “one in the back” means.

  1. Wow, that was some serious nit picking for no other reason than making a video. Riddick wasn’t that bad man. Quite liked it, and might get the directors cut. And everyone with half a brain that saw Pitch Black knew who “her” was!

Yeah that was some serious picking of nits. And the DC is quite cool, adds a whole other layer of mythology to Riddick’s race, the Furyans.
