Mortal Kombat legacy (1)

Video games, movies and the word good is something that gets combined about as often as Kervyn being nice to me. But back in 2011, a new Mortal Kombat game was released. And with it, came Mortal Kombat Legacy. Dark, brutal and gritty, it was a great example of how gaming and movies could combine into one solid package.

A sequel series has been in production for a while now, with a snippet released here and there. And now, a much more intense trailer has arrived. FIGHT!

While it wasn’t perfect, the first season from director Kevin Tancharoen still did a fine job setting up the new world in which the familiar faces of Mortal Kombat resided in. Ancient feuds, cybernetic implants and Michael Jai White being more badass in one scene than the last ten years of his entire movie career were just some of the highlights here.

Season two kicks things up a notch, as the Mortal Kombat tournament begins. There’s a bunch of new faces present as well, such as Mark Dacascos as Kung Lao, Brian Tee as Liu Kang and Cary Tagawa returning as the one and only Shang Tsung.

It’s looking pretty damn slick so far. And the best bit? It’s going to be free to watch, thanks to the Outworld magics of the Youtubes and the internet. It’s koming…September 24.

Funding from Warner Bros, licensing deals and revenue from Youtube. The last couple of Mortal Kombat episodes notched up millions of views.
