So anything Naomi Watts can do, Nicole Kidman can do better? While Watts is currently fleeing down a tunnel from all the bad reviews on the heels of her Princess Di biopic, Diana, a look at another famed princess has arrived in the form of Grace of Monaco, the story of Grace Kelly, the Hollywood actress who married into royalty in one of the richest nations in the world (She must be like the Kardashians’ role model, except for the whole talent and class thing).

Nicole Kidman is tasked with bringing the popular character to life again in – judging from the trailer – several softly lit scenes reminiscent of a French perfume ad.*

Grace Kelly, age 33 and having given up her acting career to focus on being a full time princess, uses her political maneuvering behind the scenes to save Monaco while French Leader Charles de Gaulle and Monaco’s Prince Rainier III are at odds over the principality’s standing as a tax haven.

Based on this trailer, it’s hard to gauge just what direction this film will take. I kept expecting to see impossibly beautiful men and woman dressed in blue and white striped swimwear just lounging around, staring seductively at the camera in black and white.

We already know that Grace Kelly led a glamorous and sumptuous public life, so I’m guessing that we’re going to be peeking behind that curtain a bit, there’s just no hint of that here, where it seems her biggest personal trouble will come from wearing shoes that don’t match her handbag.

Grace of Monaco will be releasing in limited international locations on November 27, 2013.

*I have to admit, FilmSchoolRejects came up with the “perfume ad” gag first, but it’s just too apt to not use.
