Looks like Sandra Bullock and George Clooney aren’t the only people getting into a sticky situation up in space this year. But while they’ll just be dealing with a nasty bout of well, Gravity, Liev Schreiber and his fellow spacesuit wearing friends will be dealing with some bigger problems in Last Days on Mars.
Firstly, there’s the whole being “on Mars” thing, and secondly, it looks like they got themselves a severe infestation of space-zombies! Okay, okay, so they call it an extraterrestrial bacterial infection, but we all know what they really mean. Yep, SPACE-ZOMBIES!
On the last day of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base believes he has made an astounding discovery – fossilized evidence of bacterial life. Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory, he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses, and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not yet dead. As the group begins to fall apart it seems their only hope is the imminent arrival of the relief ship Aurora.
I really like the people involved in this – Liev Schreiber, Olivia Williams, Elias Koteas – but, let’s be honest, this really doesn’t look like it will be challenging Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity in any shape or form for the title of Best Space Movie for 2013. That being said, I have a feeling that if you should find yourself on a lazy Sunday afternoon with 2 hours to waste on something that won’t exactly require much effort on your part, then this will fit that bill quite nicely.
The Last Days on Mars is scheduled for release on December 6, 2013.

This “goes-to-Mars-and-gets-infected-and-becomes-a-zombie” thing sounds familiar, but I just can’t place it. Ghosts of Mars?

Ah, but it’s wonderfully horrible. They really should do a live-action Dead Space…and hopefully not mess it up like they did Doom

Best thing about Doom movie was the FPS thing, so damn cool!

I watched and re-watched it for the FPS. It was awesome. But the whole story was just completely wrong. They can show naked women, but no no no, the monsters cannot come from hell, that’s a big no.

Apparently there was a 1991 film called “Dead Space” about a deadly virus that attacked the crew of a space station. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101675/

EA is already developing Dead Space movie. Unfortunately, the guy who wrote Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li is developing it for them. http://www.themovies.co.za/2013/07/22/extras-nic-cage-is-not-expendable-agents-of-shield-reaction-the-dead-walk-again-jeff-wadlow-talks-x-force-thanos-confirmed-for-guardians-and-durban-film-festival-feels-the-banhammer-plus-much/
