While the idea of Spike Lee remaking Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy initially sounded about as appetizing as eating a live squid, I have to admit that I’ve slowly but surely started drinking their kool-aid. Mixed metaphors aside, what I’ve seen thus far looks really intriguing. Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley are all solid draws here. Not to mention, you get Samuel L. Jackson in a kimono and bleached mohawk, running the world’s worst hotel.
Said hotel being where Brolin’s character finds himself inexplicably imprisoned for two decades. Now a new viral campaign for the film has launched, centered around this hotel, aptly called Hotel Oldboy. And the first thing to come out Hotel Oldboy, is this eerie, haunting promo clip/trailer for the film.
OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
Unnerved much? Along with that… something, these three posters have been released, selling the advantages of checking into Hotel Oldboy.
