Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

So… Any of you guys have a time machine I could borrow? Because I don’t think I can take the wait anymore for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity (Potentially breaking the space-time continuum is a simple price to pay for seeing this film). It’s only 2 weeks till I get to see it (a few more weeks for you guys), but I wants it NOW!

Especially to see whether the claims being made in this new featurette as well as the mountain of praise the film has garnered about how amazing the use of 3D is, actually lives up to the hype.

This weekend past saw the most prestigious TV awards show, The Emmy Awards, being held and here’s a list of all your winners. If you guessed Breaking Bad for a lot of the categories, you’d be pretty spot on.

Somebody has made a Star Wars lightsaber Thumb Wrestling kit complete with interchangeable backdrops, because reasons, that’s why.

Vin of the Diesel has posted a trio of new on-set pics for Fast and Furious 7, none of which is fast or even furious, but I have a feeling that “Standing Still and Sombre 7” doesn’t quite have the same zing to it.

If you looked at the announcement that Glee star Grant Gustin would play the superhero The Flash in a new CW series spinoff from Arrow, and thought that he looked a bit young for the role, well then you’re not alone. There are lots of people who felt the same way, including Grant Gustin.

“I got an audition and I was really excited and a little skeptical at first, because I’m a comic book fan. I know the character and know I’m a little young,”

“I know I’m coming on as up-and-coming in my field. He’s not going to be The Flash immediately, obviously. We’re going to be Barry Allen first in two episodes and then he’ll come back later as The Flash. I haven’t actually had a chance to read any scripts yet, so we’ll see.”

We’re one day away from the US launch of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or as I like to call it, “There’s a Joss Whedon show back on TV, so suck it, Fox!” Day, so here’s a new TV spot that gives us a glimpse at plenty of new footage from the highly anticipated show.

Cate Blanchett has won tons of acclaim in front of the camera, and now it’s time to see if she’s any good behind it. The Oscar winning actress will be making her directorial debut with The Dinner, a psychological thriller based on a book by Herman Koch, about four people eating supper and talking. No, really, here’s the book’s synopsis to prove it:

An internationally bestselling phenomenon: the darkly suspenseful, highly controversial tale of two families struggling to make the hardest decision of their lives — all over the course of one meal.

It’s a summer’s evening in Amsterdam, and two couples meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. Between mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of polite discourse — the banality of work, the triviality of the holidays. But behind the empty words, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened.

Each couple has a fifteen-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families. As the dinner reaches its culinary climax, the conversation finally touches on their children. As civility and friendship disintegrate, each couple show just how far they are prepared to go to protect those they love.

Tautly written, incredibly gripping, and told by an unforgettable narrator, The Dinner promises to be the topic of countless dinner party debates. Skewering everything from parenting values to pretentious menus to political convictions, this novel reveals the dark side of genteel society and asks what each of us would do in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Ever wondered what Superman would look like as a spy? Well then today is your lucky day, as we have the first pic of a suited up Henry Cavill on the set of Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E.looking all suave and dapper and is he sticking out his tongue at somebody?!

Er… So I’m guessing that Bryan Singer and the folks over at SyFy saw and really enjoyed Pacific Rim then? Singer will be producing a new TV series for the badly spelled TV network, titled Creature at Baywhich takes place “in the wake of the US military taking down a giant, rampant creature – a modern-day “Kaiju” monster – just off the Northern California coast, a middle-management Undersecretary from the California Emergency Management Agency is charged with leading the clean-up efforts as the small town becomes the focus of the entire world.”

Videogame graphics engines are getting crazy close to completely life-like visuals and one game that was definitely pushing that envelope Star Wars 1313. I say “was” because after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, the game got put on a permanent hiatus. As a Star Wars geek and avid gamer, that last sentence makes me sadder than watching a kitten funeral, due to the fact that Star Wars 1313 looked amazing. Luckily, it looks like the work done on the game isn’t going to waste though. We’ve already heard how many of its developed elements was repurposed for the long in development Star Wars:  Underworld TV series, and now Lucasfilm’s chief technology strategy officer Kim Libreri revealed at a BAFTA event in London, just how the videogame graphics technology could perhaps help progress the filmmaking techniques of the future.

“Everyone has seen what we can do in movies… We think that computer graphics are going to be so realistic in real time computer graphics that, over the next decade, we’ll start to be able to take the post out of post-production; where you’ll leave a movie set and the shot is pretty much complete.”

“If you combine video games with film-making techniques, you can start to have these real deep, multi-user experiences. Being able to animate, edit and compose live is going to change the way we work and it’s really going to bring back the creative experience in digital effects.”

We haven’t or seen much from Duncan “Moon” Jones’ adaptation of videogame mega-hit World of Warcraft. Not that any WoW players would actually look up from their keyboards long enough to notice. Jones debuted a “mood trailer” at Comic-Con, showing the look and feel he was going for, to much fanfare, but other than that we have bupkis. But it looks like we may just have found our leads for the fantasy epic in Colin Farrell and Paula Patton. Farrell has apparently been offered the role but is still uhming and aahing about it, while the MI: Ghost Protocol vixen, Patton, has already entered deep into negotiations with Legendary Pictures, who will be picking up the film’s tab.

And before you start getting all fanboy-ey about Farrell wielding Frostmourne or something, there’s still no indication as to exactly what part of the universe’s expansive lore the film will be drawing on.

So you’re getting married you want to do something different. You’re both big Harry Potter fans so you figure that a Potter themed wedding, where you have a professional falconer train two owls – looking like the messenger owls from the films/book – to swoop into the church and deliver your wedding rings to you, will be an amazing idea. And it would be, except for one simple fact: Owls can be dicks and may just fly up into the rafters of the church and sit there with your rings in its claws, looking down at you busy not getting married.

Now, I normally try to end with something funny or cool, and admittedly this is possibly neither of things. But if you don’t find the cockles of your heat warmed at this clip of Game of Thrones star and all around awesome small person, Peter Dinklage, singing all about “Simon Says” on Sesame Street, then there’s a very good chance that you actually have no heart.
