The 1981 Brooke Shields film, Endless Love, is generally only remembered for two things: The multiple award winning original title song from Lionel Richie and Diana Ross, doomed to be played at every wedding ever, and the Trivial Pursuit contender fact that it was Tom Cruise’s first feature film role (although only a brief cameo).

Writer/director Shana Feste’s modern remake has none of those things going for it. It does have a steamy visuals, a dark undertone and Magic Mike‘s Alex Pettyfer’s allergy to his clothes.

“Endless Love” stars Alex Pettyfer (“Magic Mike”) and Gabriella Wilde (“The Three Musketeers”) in the story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart

Due to the fact that I had just very recently discovered the joys of pooping my pants and drinking breast milk straight from the source (no, not last weekend) at the time of its release, I never saw the original 1981 film, but I know that all the Nicholas Sparks-like soppy romance stuff probably – and predictably – makes way for some real melodrama later on.

The trailer does a fair job of selling this and the fact that yes, the two leads are very attractive and love each other so much that they constantly want to flash their very attractive naughty bits at one another, which is really all that fans of this type of thing really needs. Your mileage may vary.

Endless Love will be embracing those genre staples even more, as it releases on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2014.

PS: And because I know you’re wondering about it, that’s Florence and the Machine’s cover of Peter Gabriel’s classic “Addicted To Love”.
