TMNT has pretty much been a film steeped in mystery. Which might be a good thing, because there are some changes being made to the formula of mutated turtles with an attitude. You can bet your nunchucks that core fans are frothing right now. Which means that this post of Shredder star William Fichtner getting chatty about his character and his co-stars will leave those rabid believers foaming at the mouth and keeling over by the time he’s done.

Quick, grab their stuff!

TMNT Fichtner (2)

Speaking to Flicks and the City, Fichtner gave his fellow half-shell heroes some credit:

It always had sort of a bouncy cartoon feel to me, which is great, that’s why it was appealing. That’s not this movie….It’s not like any Mutant NInja Turtles thing you’ve ever seen before. It’s freaky, they’re cool, and they’re mutants and they look awesome. It’s tough and it’s going to be really, really great.

Moving on, Fichtner then spoke about how his version of the iconic Shredder would differ from past incarnations, something which will most likely get a few fans angry:

Well I play a guy named Eric Sachs and we find out that Eric Sachs is somebody else too. I can’t give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His connection and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the backstory, which comes out in this film, is really intriguing…We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome.

I can handle that change to be honest. Hell, one of the TMNT cartoons a couple of years back made Krang the freakin’ Shredder. But will Fichtner at least don the trademark blades and mask of that character? Fichtner says yes to that:

Shredder dons himself with armor, and that’s who he is and that happens in this story. It’s the backstory on how it all began with the turtles, that the character of Eric Sachs….it’s not by chance that he knows the Turtles.

And much like any film that Michael Bay has had a presence in, there’s always room for a few sequels according to Fichtner:

Do I think you’re going to see another one? I think you’re going to see a few of them. Well I signed a three picture thing, so I’ll see what happens.

Currently, TMNT is scheduled for an August 2014 release and also stars Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Will Arnett and Danny Woodburn. Jonathan Liebesman directs.
