Ever since he first burst onto the scene, chasing down some fookin’ prawns in his buddy Neil Blomkamp’s District 9, Sharlto Copley has been one to keep an eye on. The local boytjie has a habit of stealing the show from his slightly more famous and well established Hollywood co-stars, even recently upstaging such award winning acting heavyweights as Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. And all with just a few choice swear words and the creepiest rendition of “Jan Pierewiet” the world has ever heard.

Unfortunately for Sharlto though,  it doesn’t look like all the naughty Afrikaans words in the world is going to help him out of the situation he finds himself in, in his his latest film, the grim looking thriller, Open Grave.

A man (Sharlto Copley, “District 9,” “Elysium”) wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that’s more vicious and hungry each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together before it’s too late.

Well consider me intrigued. And that’s even after the fact that I realized this was directed by Gonzalo “Apollo 18” Lopez-Gallego. Let it never be said that I don’t give people second chances.

You can get to dig Open Grave in limited theatres on January 3, 2014.
