Rumour: Is Thor's Jaimie Alexander in talks with WB/DC for the role of Wonder Woman?

Much has been said about Wonder Woman’s big screen debut. Most of it coming from the fans and sounding something like “WHY THE HELL HASN’T IT HAPPENED YET? MARVEL HAS MADE A MOVIE ABOUT A TALKING RACCOON AND WE CAN’T GET A WARRIOR PRINCESS RIGHT?!”

But lately, Warner Bros have finally appeared to get their demigod ducks in a row, with the easy money saying that the character will be debuting in Batman vs Superman before appearing in Justice League. But just who will be wearing the star-spangled undies? Perhaps a young actress who knows all about playing a female mythological warrior?

This weekend past say the Comikaze13 convention in London and Jaimie Alexander, who plays Lady Sif in the two Thor films, was there to promote Marvel’s latest, Thor: The Dark World. Forbes managed to chat with Ms Alexander about the film, specifically if there would be a third film (“[if] there are strong numbers there’s going to be a third one”) and whether she’d be up for a Lady Sid spinoff film (“I would absolutely say ‘yes!’“). It’s really all par for the course stuff for these types of pressers.

But then things took an unexpected turn, as Alexander revealed that she was “having discussions with both companies,” i.e. both Marvel and Warner Bros/DC Comics. So what could she be talking about to the competition? Well, remember that story a while back that seemed to indicate that WB\DC was on the lookout for an actress to portray Wonder Woman in Batman VS Superman?

According to Alexander’s own admission, she “kind of knows the story line for that movie”. Last time I checked, WB/DC were not in the habit of just telling random actresses the story details of arguably their next biggest production, which leads me to the conclusion that she must have read for some part in the film. And for anybody currently in the possession of functioning eyeballs and a brain, it’s blatantly obvious what character she physically resembles the most.

And for her part, Alexander is a Wonder Woman groupie who wants to see the character done justice on the big screen, and knows just how easy a transition it could be from Lady Sif of Asgard to Princess Diana of Themyscira.

“I’m a huge fan of Wonder Woman. I really think if this is the closest that we’re ever going to get to Wonder Woman, then I’m proud to play Sif. I hope that other comic book entities can learn a lesson from Marvel in how to execute a female character the way it should be done….I really would like to one day see a Wonder Woman film or Wonder Woman character, but until it’s done with class, I’d rather it not be done.”

While I probably won’t stop beating the Lynn Collins drum right up until the role is officially cast, I can’t say that I would disagree with the choice of Alexander for the role either. She looks the part, has already shown that she can act the part (or at least a facsimile thereof) and she clearly has a vested interested in the character. I say do it, WB/DC.

And for all of you screaming out that she can’t be play Wonder Woman when she’s already played Sif, well Captain Human America Torch has something to say about that.
