Taylor Kitsch has had some ups and downs since his transition to the big screen. He was in the brilliant John Carter, which failed horribly at the box office, X-Men Origins: Wolverine which I’m not even going to talk about, and Battleship, which was just a hot mess by all accounts. Thankfully, it looks like his agent has done a better job in teaming him up with Battleship director Peter Berg again for Lone Survivor.

Lone Survivor is based on the book by Navy SEAL Marcus Littrell about a small band of Navy SEALs that found themselves ambushed by the Taliban in Afghanistan in a mission gone wrong. I’m guessing from the title that it’s not exactly going to have a happy ending, either.

Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, “Lone Survivor” tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan. Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war. As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and resilience as they stay in the fight to the finish.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir Lone Survivor,  whose book has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the power of the human spirit is tested when we are pushed beyond our mental and physical limits. Starring alongside Wahlberg as the other members of the SEAL team are Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.

Lone Survivor will be released world-wide on 10 January, 2014, because nothing says beat-the-post-holidays-blues like a war movie.

And yes, I know that Mark Wahlberg is the main star of the movie, but Taylor Kitsch is far more interesting (read: good looking and therefore newsworthy) to me than Marky Mark.
