Besides for his very human and potentially disastrous hand (seriously, it’s right there for anybody to shoot), there’s one other major difference between the new rebooted Robocop and the classic original. Okay, two major differences if you count the paint job. Other than that though, this Robocop also has the distinction of being fully aware of the fact that he’s been transformed from policeman Alex Murphy into a walking toaster with a gun.

And in this new international trailer, this aspect – which I had to admit, I’m very curious about seeing how it gets executed – finally takes the spotlight over all the pyrotechnics we’ve previously seen. Not that he doesn’t also blow stuff up real good.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

If director Jose Padilha keeps this from becoming more Mopey-cop than Robocop, then I think the whole “What have I become?” angle could make for some interesting viewing. I’m particularly interested to see just how they handle the post-transformation relationship between Joel Kinnaman’s Alex Murphy and his wife, played by Abbie Cornish.

However they do it, it’s certainly a very brave direction to strike out in, considering just how well director Paul Verhoeven and actor Peter Weller handled the realization in the original film. We still have about 3 months to see whether this gamble pays off, but until then we’ll just have to be content with a couple new snaps and a poster from the pic.

Looks good. One small gripe i would say about his new suit is…. the red light where i think he sees through should stay straight though. The way it looks in the poster looks almost devilish lol

Is it just me or does this look like Robocop had a child with Kit from Knightrider?
