The early buzz for director Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street says we have another major awards contender here. This nearly wasn’t the case though, as Scorsese recently faced the choice to either keep tinkering with the film, and not have it ready in time for awards contention, or just cut his losses – and some of the film – and get it done for an earlier release date.

He chose the latter path, with the film releasing on Christmas Day this year. But just what was cut to get it done in time? Apparently, not much.

According to the folks at French site Allocine (via The Playlist), who got their info from French film distributor Metropolitan Filmexport, the film clocks in at a bladder obliterating 2 hours and 59 minutes, beating out the 2 hours and 58 minutes of Casino to officially become Scorsese’s longest movie yet. So this then begs the question of just how long the movie would have been, if Scorsese had actually not rushed to meet the current release date. Looks like we’ll have to wait for the inevitable extended/uncut edition on Blu Ray and DVD to find out if this is going to be the Return of the King of Wall Street movies.

One thing we can say for certain right now though, is that the film is looking fantastic, with Leonardo DiCaprio on serious top form (though he probably won’t get an Oscar – sorry, Leo), along with the rest of the stellar cast,  as can be seen in this new TV spot.

Along with that TV spot, ten new images have also been released, showing off a few new glimpses both in front of and behind the camera.

The Wolf of Wall Street howls into theatres on December 25, 2013.

I’m not worried about the runtime to be honest. With any other director maybe, but Scorcese knows how to put together a film that holds your attention all the way.

Goodfellas for example or more recently, The Departed. I watched that in the cinema and I was hooked and on the edge of my seat start to finish. Very few directors are capable of that
