Earlier this year, we saw zombie-actioner World War Z go through it’s own zombification process, where it looked all but dead after a horrendous production period, only to lurch back to life again upon release, devouring a couple hundred million box office dollars like brains.

One other film that could give WWZ a run for its money when it comes to troubled productions is 47 Ronin. Boasting on-set scuffles, Universal apparently kicking director Carl Rinsch off the film and then bringing him back, massive script changes and costly reshoots (including changing Keanu Reeves’ character from supporting role to lead) and much more, it’s uncertain if the fantasy samurai adventure could also pull off a World War Z.

What we do know though, is that it’s looking pretty good thus far.

Two new TV spots have popped up online, giving us a glimpse at some previously unseen footage, as well as assuring us that the people involved in this can indeed count to 47.

After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves) a half-breed they once rejected, as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.

As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

Along with the TV spots though, come these (in my opinion) even more interesting two clips, giving a behind the scenes look at the film’s production, including a few on-one-one samurai fight scenes, battle sequences, what looks like a wedding scene and Keanu Reeves having the most excellent “Woah” beat right out him by some angry Japanese men with sticks.

47 Ronin slashes its way into international cinemas on Christmas day, while we’ll have to wait just a little longer to see it on December 27, 2013.
