Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Earlier today we saw Darryn breakdown the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but Darryn also has to constantly be told to stop licking paint, so can he really be trusted with such things? So if you need a second (and perhaps third, fourth, fifth and sixth) opinion for your trailer breakdowns, and from somebody who knows about these things, here’s director Marc Webb, with his stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan, breaking down the trailer with commentary.

And staying with that trailer, remember that scene, the one showing off Doc Ock’s tentacles and Vulture’s wings? Of course you do, as that was when you had your geekgasm. Well, according to Screenrant, that may actually be from the film’s post credits scene. And if you’re thinking that Sony wouldn’t be so dumb as to spoil their big reveal in the first trailer, well I got news for you, as they did just that with the post credit sequence for the first film.

And the names are in for all the contenders for the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Here is the list of all ten nominees, or as I like to call it, “Gravity and the 9 other movies who somehow still think they have a chance”: Gravity, Elysium, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Iron Man 3, The Lone Ranger, Oblivion, Star Trek Into Darkness, Thor: The Dark World, Pacific Rim and World War Z .

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has come a long way since being mistaken for a girl on 3rd Rock From the Sun, and not only is he now an incredibly accomplished actor and director, but thanks to his online collaborator site, www.hitrecord.com, he is also the facilitator to get all kinds of crowdsourced creative projects (like short movies, art installations, music shows, etc) made. HitRecord is undoubtedly his passion project, and now JGL is taking that passion to TV.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is always threatening it, but at least now we know when it will happen. Johnson will be laying the seismic smack down on June 5, 2015, which is when his next major blockbuster, San Andreas, will be released. The film, which sees Johnson reteam with his Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton, “centers on a massive earthquake that hits California and one man who must make the treacherous journey across the state to rescue his estranged daughter.”

Amanda Seyfried has officially signed on to star in the Will Ferrell and Adam McKay produced comedy, He’s F—ing Perfect. Now I know what you’re thinking: “Why are we only finding out now that they’re making a movie about you, Kervyn?”  But actually, this has nothing to do with me. The film, which has been written respectively by Lauryn Khan and Jake Szymanski, frequent collaborators on Ferrell and McKay’s Funny or Die website, will see Seyfried as a “woman, pessimistic in love, who regularly uses the Internet to research the men her friends are dating, acting as a vetting device for them to weed out losers. Things take a turn when she gets a friend to dump a new guy in order to steal the man for herself, using her social media savvy to turn herself into his perfect match.” Because that always works out well.

Quite some time back, we showed you the trailer for an Australian Star Wars fan film called Star Wars Downunder (best tagline ever: “an epic tale of the good, the bad and the thirsty”), and that film is now finally completed and ready for your viewing. So go throw a shrimp on the barbie, take some lady named Mathilda for a waltz or whatever it is that Aussies do to relax, and then check it out below.

Congratulations, random Pacific Rim cosplayer by the name of George Roush, you win the Internet for today.

If you felt a bit cheated by that first teaser – and I do mean teaser – trailer for season 2 of BBC America’s critically acclaimed Orphan Black, then here’s a little somethin’ somethin’ to help sate your appetite a bit. EW have scored this new pic from the premiere showing star Tatiana Maslany as streetwise Sarah about to get physical with… Well, Tatiana Maslany as ruthless business woman Rachel. Clones, they make everything confusing.

And if going all Fight Club was enough, Maslany will be needing to come up with even more ways of fooling us that she’s actually a whole bunch of different people as the show’s creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson explain.

I think of course it’s safe to assume that [there will be more clones in Season 2]. We are really excited about doing that. We want to do it in a way that is unexpected. We want to do it at a time that’s unexpected. But it is obviously something that we talk about a lot. And it’s part of the fun of making Orphan Black and making a show about clones is that we can be having those discussions. We have some surprises in store.

Marvel Studios has their Joss Whedon, and now Fox has their Simon Kinberg. The prolific writer-producer – who has written/produced the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past and is doing the same for director Josh Trank’s Fantastic Reboot – has signed a three-year, first look deal with Fox, during which he will be looking to expand the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises into a full blown shared universe. This was actually the task that was supposedly set to Mark Millar earlier in the year, but since that initial announcement, we haven’t heard much about it from the comic book scribe.

Kinberg on the other hand has been all over the place, not only doing the aforementioned writing and producing, but also set to pen one of the new Star Wars movies, producing the Star Wars Rebels animated series, working with Neill Blomkamp on Elysium and the upcoming Chappie, and producing Disney’s new take on Cinderella. And he apparently still has more stories to tell.

“I have a lot of ideas on how to built those brands and do what everybody is thinking of these days: Be like Marvel. I want to be able to build stories over multiple movies.”

Kinberg made his big screen debut with Fox back in 2005, when he penned the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie actioner Mr and Mrs Smith, and considers the studio his home, because besides for the comic book franchise, they will also be allowing him to bring to screen some other original work.

“[Fox have] always been incredibly generous with me and trusting me with movies. They treat me like a partner and not an employee.”

Let it never ever be said that NASA doesn’t contribute meaningfully to society, because I really can’t think of a better way to spend US taxpayers money than by building a super complex bullet time rig so that you can capture effects like they used in The Matrix.
