Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Lately, TV’s milkshake has been bringing all the movie stars to the yard, and the same is true for Showtime’s upcoming Penny Dreadful which features a cast of Josh Hartnet, Eva Green and Timothy Dalton among others. The new show, created by Oscar nominated writer John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator), will be throwing a bunch of classic horror literary characters together in Victorian London for a “frightening psychosexual thriller”. Okay then.

Here’s the first teaser trailer for the show, focusing on Eva Green, who apparently has a bit of a demon problem.

Do you know who Danny Strong is? I’m sure a few hardcore Buffy fans just raised their hands in glee, as they know him to be the actor who played the diminutive Jonathan, a character that started out as just another loser for Buffy to punch, then became a supervillain, and eventually a loveable series regular. And if you think that metamorphosis is impressive, wait until you hear what he’s actually been doing in Hollywood since Buffy ended. Forget Sarah Michelle Gellar, forget David Boreanaz, forget Alyson Hannigan, hell, forget Nicholas Brendon (everybody else has). Danny Strong is actually the most successful Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum by far.

Somebody made a 200,000 piece LEGO recreation of Rivendell from Lord of the Rings. TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND PIECES! Can you imagine stepping barefoot onto that in the dark?!

Thanks to French film mag, Studio Cine Live, we can get a look at the costume Wolverine will be wearing in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, and hey Wolvie, Batman called and he wants his semi-formal Batsuit back.

If you needed some more evidence to prove that Emilia Clarke will make a fine Sarah Connor, somebody has gone and taken quotes from her famous role of Deanerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones and compared them, eerily successfully, to things about Ms Connor. Why? Because internet, that’s why.

Gilligan’s Island is one of those things that is so ingrained into pop culture, that I’m sure most of you have an idea of what it’s about, despite the fact that the 1960’s cult favourite US show never aired on our shores. As such I’m expecting an a-MEH-zing response to the news that a feature film reboot is being planned about the tale of island castaways, with funnyman Josh Gad in the lead. Because clearly this whole “reboot popular old US series as a modern movie” idea worked out so swell for Beverly Hillbillies, Leave it to Beaver, Lost in Space and every single other one of these.

Here’s a new “Happy Holidays” themed motion poster for Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel which is about as Wes Anderson-ish as you can get.

You have to hand it to Sony Pictures, they certainly know their target audience. When you have a movie about a robot cop fighting other robots, you take it to the pop culture birthplace of robots fighting each other, which is exactly what Sony is doing with Jose Padilha’s upcoming Robocop reboot. The much anticipated (or dreaded, depending on the person) reboot will first be opening up in several Asian territories, like Singapore and Malaysia and even opening on the Chinese New Year weekend, before heading to the rest of the world. What’s interesting, is that it would already have opened in 33 different territories before it eventually graces American cinema-houses.

Studios have quickly cottoned onto the fact that when a movie’s box office success chances are 50/50, then keep it away from the ever-vocal domestic market for as long as possible, to avoid negative word of mouth spoiling international box office returns.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the explosions… The G.I. Joe film franchise has never been one to bothered by such annoying limitations like gravity and logic, so they certainly won’t let a little death get in their way. Said death being that of [SPOILER ALERT] Channing Tatum’s Duke, who seemingly met his demise earlier this year in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. But according to director Jon M. Chu, ol’ Charming Potato may just be back for the third film.

“You never know. Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who’s coming back and who’s not.”

Besides for zombie male strippers, Chu also promised that they would be “taking it to another level with this one” and that the characters set to be introduced this time around are “exciting ones that I know the fans will love, and people that I’ve always wanted to work with.”

And you can file this next video under “Because, why not” as HitFix’s Drew McWeeny asks the cast of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues which of the Avengers they would be.

Oh, Shia LaBeouf. Just when people were finally starting to not hate your face on principle, you go and screw it all up again. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then clearly you don’t follow The Beef or any of the major movie news writers on Twitter, as quite the fracas erupted there yesterday. The reason? A short film titled HowardCantour.com that LaBeouf recently released to much acclaim. The film was promptly taken down though, when it was discovered by Buzzfeed that LaBeouf had essentially ripped off in places, frame for frame, word for word, portions of comic book writer Daniel Clowes’ comic “Justin M. Damiano”, without so much as a mention of Clowes’ name in the credits.

Several of Clowes’ fans, including Hollywood personalities like actor Patton Oswalt and Bad Ass Digest writer Devin Faraci, utterly ripped into LaBeouf for his blatant plagiarism, prompting the Transformers star to remove the vid and offer an apology on Twitter

“Copying isn’t particularly creative work. Being inspired by someone else’s idea to produce something new and different IS creative work. In my excitement and naïveté as an amateur filmmaker, I got lost in the creative process and neglected to follow proper accreditation. Im embarrassed that I failed to credit @danielclowes for his original graphic novella Justin M. Damiano, which served as my inspiration. I was truly moved by his piece of work & I knew that it would make a poignant & relevant short. I apologize to all who assumed I wrote it. I deeply regret the manner in which these events have unfolded and want @danielclowes to know that I have a great respect for his work.”

Except, there were two things wrong with this apology. Firstly, LaBeouf seemed to think the problem was the fact that he “forgot” to credit Clowes, and not the fact that he just outright copied somebody’s work and tried to flog it off as his own. Secondly – and this is a doozy – this apology also appears to be copied from – or is at least eerily similar to – a Yahoo! Answers post about plagiarism from four years ago.

Yes, apologize for being a plagiarist by plagiarizing a statement about plagiarism. Alrighty then.

Congratulation, Paul Rudd, you brilliant man, you. Unless you watch the Conan O’Brien show religiously, you probably didn’t notice this, but actor Paul Rudd has quietly been pulling off one of the longest running gags in Hollywood. Somebody has put together this video (a little sloppily I must admit, as it’s not in chronological order) showing all the times Rudd has appeared on the popular late night talk show, and how every single time he’s there, and needs to show a clip from whatever movie/TV series/whatever he is working on at the time, Rudd shows the same wrong clip over and over again, much to O’Brien’s growing dismay.
