It’s a risky move, headlining a comic book movie. On the one side, you could find yourself forever linked with a a character in tights and a sudden need to file restraining orders against fanboys such as Kervyn, but the flipside is that such films could give your career one hell of a boost.

And it looks like Sex Panther cologne salesman Paul Rudd will be getting that shot after landing the lead role in Ant-Man.

According to The Wrap, Rudd is the man that Marvel chose to don a helmt and some Pym particles, and he’ll be playing the Hank Pym version of the hero. Production kicks off soon on the Edgar Wright directed film, with filming set to start early next year in Georgia. It’s been a long road for the film, which will be part of the Phase Three Marvel movies.

Ant Man is a charcter that isn’t exactly as well known as Iron Man or the Hulk, but the casting of a lead actor is good news here. Rudd has the charm and skills to pull off the role of Pym, and combined with Edgar Wrights unique directing skills and eye for outrageous details, this could be the highlight of those upcoming heroes in tights movies.

Rudd might not be the only Ant-Man either, as the Scott Lang version of the character could also pop up soon, as Wright told SuperHeroHype some years ago:

The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both… Henry Pym and Scott Lang. So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60’s, in sort of ‘Tales to Astonish’ mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.

It’s an interesting idea, I reckon. Ant-Man arrives shortly after the May 1 2015 release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, on July 31.
