Writer/director Gareth Evans talks THE RAID 2 & 3

Forget your Interstellars, Guardians of the Galaxies, Trancendences, Godzillas, Captain Americas and even those most wanted Muppets. The movie I’m most looking forward to in 2014 is The Raid 2: Berandal, writer/director Gareth Evans’ followup to his 2012 bone breaking martial arts epic. Evans is currently busy in post-production on themovie, but he’s already teasing some details for a third film, as well as how the second has quite a few surprises in store for us.

Taking to his Twitter account, Evans revealed the timeline of how the three films will fit together:

The Raid 2 takes place two hours after the first. The Raid 3 would start two hours before The Raid 2 ends.”

And for those of you who are worried that Evans is pulling a Hobbit here, don’t worry, he always planned for the ass-kicking adventures of Officer Rama (Iko Uwais) to be a trilogy. So just how will the events of The Raid 2 lead to another film? Well, Evans is understandably keeping mum on that, but he did reveal that what we’ve seen so far in the intense teaser trailer and action packed first full trailer for the film is just the tip of the very bloody iceberg.

“Only spoilers for Act 1 setup [in the trailers]. Naturally, there’s a ton of stuff we have kept hidden from the trailer. About 4/5 action scenes don’t feature at all.”

Based on how crazy some of the action we’ve already seen looks, my excitement levels just got cranked up to 11… thousand. And just so that I’m not the only that’s going to get up from my chair and start kung fu fighting everybody and everything I see, here’s that trailer again to get you just as amped.

The Raid 2: Berandal is out internationally on March 28, 2014, while Evans has revealed that he will be tackling a different English language movie first, before jumping back into production on The Raid 3.

Well, haven’t seen anything on the theatre release schedules yet. If it does get released here (which I doubt since the first film didn’t), expected to be very limited.
