As big a fan as I am when it comes to James Bond films, the recent batch of Daniel Craig flicks as the iconic 007 have been lacing a certain something. While Casino Royale was an action-packed start, it felt too cruel sometimes and Bond was far too surly for my liking, something which continued into Quantum of Solace.
Skyfall however, was the modern day Bond movie that I wanted. The plot was needlessly convuloted, the central villain was bonkers and Bond managed to finally find his groove in the third flick of the modern day era, that Sam Mendes directed. And according to screenwriter John Logan, the next 007 film will continue in that direction.
Speaking to IGN, Logan explained that the next Bond film would build on the foundation created by Skyfall, but would do so in a manner that makes that film stand on its own:
My goal is to write a great movie that’s appropriate, to build on what we did on Skyfall, but make it its own unique animal. The themes, ideas and the characters from Skyfall can obviously continue on, because it is a franchise, and it is an ongoing story. So I think there’s resonance from Skyfall in the new movie.
If there’s one thing that Skyfall did right, it was to incorporate various elements from the entire history of James Bond, without making said elements feel like a burden. And you can expect Logan to write a few more of those into the sequel:
I grew up on the Bond movies, The first one I saw was Diamonds Are Forever, when I was a kid. I just loved them to pieces. I love all the elements, from the books — mostly from the novels; going back to Ian Fleming is where I started with Skyfall — and there’s certainly elements of the movies and the novels that we’ve brought into the new movie, as they did into Skyfall.
As for who Bond might be facing next, now that MGM has worked out a new deal with the Kevin McClory estate, SPECTRE and Ernst Stavros Blofeld could finally be making a return to the franchise. If it suits the story. “You know, I think our villain’s appropriate to the story we’re telling,” Logan said when quizzed about this.

I really enjoyed Skyfall, especially the tone of the humour which felt more dry & subtle. No more “Christmas comes twice a year” for me thanks.

Im just a crazed James Bond fan and enjoyed every single one of them. When i was a kid i didnt bother much to watch cartoons. All i wanted to watch was James Bond funny enough lol All the new James bond movies i enjoyed a lot. Casino Royale I watched 13times in the cinema (yes i was crazy) Quantum of Solace i can understand wasnt that great. The villain was quite pathetic really. The movie felt broken in some instances, but Skyfall redeemed it all ^_^
