Being award season, certain movies have been singled out for praise. Typically the same ones again and again and again…

Today we want to know from you what 2013 releases are being unfairly ignored by the majority of critics and awards bodies? What are your unsung film hits of last year, which are sure to see their reputation grow over time – even if they didn’t open to fanfare?

Pacific Rim needs love. Loads of it.

In-frakking-deed. I was quite surprised to not see it up for a Visual Effects Oscar.

It is because it was not a love story based on a tragic real life event and did not have enough lens flare.

Movie 43. Critics hated it, but it is easily the best slapstick film made in many, many years. The set pieces are genius, the actors brought their A game and the escalation was marvellous – no lacklustre third act here. Yes, it’s not everyone’s taste, but I honestly think critic and audience snobbery made this into something it isn’t. In contrast awful abortions like Scary Movie 5 and A Haunted House didn’t get nearly as much flak, but they did NOTHING for the genre other than dig its hole deeper. In contrast, Movie 43 was sheer, bad-taste genius, followed closely by Bad Grandpa and at a little distance Hell Baby.

I still have to finish it, but the new Carrie also looks like it has more to it than what people have been saying.

I liked Carrie, just felt there was a jarring change of pace about 2/3s of the way through the movie. It was a nice slow build then suddenly everything’s over.

I had a suspicion that may happen, though the original film went the same route. I’m tempted to rewatch that, since I can’t remember it well, and reread the book, which I can’t remember either, and see how they compare.

Yeah, this fell short of expectations. It went so well, then the prom scene turned it into a cheesy Final Destination…
