Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Pink Floyd had it all wrong, you actually do need education and today I’ll be providing just that with this really cool video of 10 Amazing Facts about Pixar.

Let’s face it, as much as I love what they’re doing on the big screen, Marvel’s small screen efforts with Agents of SHIELD has been less than successful. The show has had it’s high points, but also several pretty disappointing moments, most recently with the big mystery surrounding Agent Coulson’s resurrection. Marvel have actually heard the gripes though, and have pledged to turn things around. One way we’ve already heard about, is by bringing in new superpowered characters from the movie and comic book universe. And turns out that while we didn’t even know it, we’ve actually been witnessing the origin story of one since the very first episode. Marvel has revealed that J. August Richards’ Mike Peterson, who was originally suspected of being just about every African American street level superhero in the Marvel universe, is actually being set up to become the cyborg, time travelling one-man-army, Deathlok.

They’ve also revealed that Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif, who was recently announced to be showing up in the show’s upcoming 15th episode, will be going toe to toe with Elena Satine’s Asgardian goddess Lorelei on the show. While the addition of all these superhero characters, and more of a link to the movies is a massive step in the right direction, there’s still a lot about the show that needs to be fixed.

Hey you! Are you making a movie, but gosh darn it, you just cannot decide which action star to cast in the lead? Well, then this handy flowchart is just for you!

Despite some of the successes he’s had (and some more recent efforts), Arnold Schwarzenegger is definitely not the first person you would think of when it comes making with the funny. But apparently all you need to do to turn a killing machine into a joke machine is give him a really bad wig and a mustache.

As you probably may have seen (if you possess eyes and an internet connection), some untrustworthy folk have angered Quentin Tarantino resulting in him Hulk SMASH!-ing plans for his next film, the western The Hateful Eight. But we may not have that long to wait to see what QT does instead. When he released the statement about Eight he mentioned that his plan was to write two scripts, the western being the first, but now he would just be tackling the second script instead. So what will this script be about? Well, according to The Wrap, Tarantino may just be genre hopping once again. He’s already done a western, a WWII movie, kung fu films, several crime dramas and now it looks like he could be tackling a prison movie next.

Reportedly Tarantino has been immersing himself in the details of the Robert Blake murder case. Blake, a popular actor who starred in 1970’s TV show Baretta, was tried and acquitted of the murder of his then wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley in 2001, and it looks like QT may just be using this sordid story as some inspiration for his own 70’s-based prison story about a popular tough guy actor convicted of murder.

Now Tarantino may have plans to turn The Hateful Eight’s script into a novel, but how are other already made movies novelized? Can any old fool just write a book version of a movie they’ve seen and then just get it published, hey presto? Because apparently, according to the guy who’s written the official novelizations of Man of Steel, The Dark Knight, Underworld and Star Trek among others, that’s really happens.

Yo dawg. I heard you like shooting action-comedy westerns like writer-direct Seth McFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die In The West, so here’s a picture of Charlize Theron shooting some guns in front of Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris and McFarlane, so now you can shoot while you shoot.

A Million Ways to Die in the West

Just so that we’re all clear here, Sir Ben Kingsley, is half British and half Indian. You would never guess it though based on his recent roles where he played an alien killing Maori, and Bin Laden lookalike terrorist of Chinese origin (and, also British). And he’s keeping this trend of international roles alive as he’s just joined the Ben Stiller comedy threequel Night at the Museum 3 as “a formidable Egyptian pharaoh on display in the British museum” who is revived by the magical tablet that’s been the macguffin of the series thus far.

There’s been a lot of cloak and dagger action surrounding director Brad Bird and writer Damon Lindelof’s Tomorrowland, but now thanks to these first set pics featuring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie we know two things for certain: 1) it will involve some kind of space lander module, and 2) Laurie will be wearing the type of snazzy futuristic jackets that will make the whole 1980’s jealous.

With the exception of the Oscar nominated Flight, director Robert Zemeckis’ most recent films haven’t always been a success despite some very lofty ambition. But for his next project he’s going to aim even higher. Literally. The story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who gained fame back in 1974 when he crossed the 61m gap between the 451m high Two Towers of the then just completed World Trade Centre, has already been told in James Marsh’s Oscar winning 2008 documentary Man on a Wire.

However, Zemeckis and TriStar Productions’ Tim Rothman have plans to retell the thrilling tale as a dramatic feature film, making use of some cutting edge 3D technology. Zemeckis has co-written a script with Christopher Browne, based on Petit’s memoirs of the 6-years worth of planning it took to complete the incredible stunt, and that he’s looking at Joseph Gordon-Levitt to star as the tight-rope walker. Reports do point out that JGL has not been made an offer or signed any deal yet, so the film could end up with a totally different actor in the lead. Also, in my opinion, JGL is not ginger enough.

Everybody always rips off Star Trek’s “red shirts” and how they are just canon fodder, but honestly, they have it easy compared to Chief O’Brien’s crappy job.

Ant-Man is a character known for squeezing into tiny gaps, but he’s about to slot into a rather large one. Now that WB\DC have decided to delay Batman VS Superman to May 6, 2016, their old prime box office real estate slot of July 15, 2013 was up for grabs, and Marvel have wasted no time in pushing Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man forward by two weeks to claim it for themselves.

Whether Marvel will be doing more schedule reshuffling to accommodate Batman VS Superman‘s new release date, which is when Marvel already had another untitled Phase 3 scheduled, is uncertain at this stage.

Thanks to the fact that it’s a continent away and I’m so broke that anybody robbing me would just be practicing, I have  yet to attend the Sundance Film Festival. But thanks to this hilarious fake trailer, there’s one aspect of Sundance –  its showcasing of a certain type of indie film – that I will not be missing out on.

I like SHIELD. Yes, it could be better. But is it not something we expect from Joss Whedon? Show starts slow but builds up and gets cancelled before his plans come truly to the fore? Hopefully his vision can be properly realised here, and not prematurely ended like Firefly and Dollhouse! Lady Sif is hot!

To be honest though, Whedon’s influence on this is minimal, if you ask me. The first ep had a lot of Whedonisms, but not so much since then.
