Ah, the ol’ “don’t look in the bag” trick. Nothing will get people to look into a bag faster than telling them that. The big problem with people looking into the bag arises though when said bag belongs to an infamous mobster played by Robert De Niro, as a mopy John Cusack (what is it about him playing an all-black wearing reluctant criminal is so appealing?) soon finds out in The Bag Man.
This film appears to have completely slipped through under the radar, and I’m not sure why. You would think that aside for the aforementioned stars, that a movie also featuring a two-man hit squad consisting of a stone throwin midget and a Nick Fury cosplayer would get more public traction.
“The Bag Man” is a taut crime thriller that follows Jack (John Cusack), a tough guy with chronic bad luck but human touches, and legendary crime boss Dragna (Robert De Niro). Dragna has summoned Jack and a host of shady characters to a remote bayou motel for unknown reasons, and over the course of a long and violently eventful night, Jack’s path crosses with the stunningly beautiful Rivka (Rebecca Da Costa). All of their fates intertwine, and when Dragna arrives on the scene there are sudden and extreme consequences for everyone involved.
The Bag Man stars John Cusack, Rebecca Da Costa, Robert De Niro, Dominic Purcell, Crispin Glover, Sticky Fingaz and Vern Troyer and will have a limited release on February 28, 2014.
