Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

If this new “Behind the Bricks” featurette for The Lego Movie still doesn’t get you excited for the upcoming star studded animated comedy – it has the golden tones of Morgan Freeman reading a phone book AND BATMAN! – then I don’t think that anything will. You were probably one of those kids that intentionally left loose Lego blocks in the corridor in front of your parents’ bedroom, hey?

Speaking of Batman, those grapeviners over at Latino Review think they may have scooped not only what Ben Affleck’s batsuit in Batman Vs Superman – the one that had both Kevin Smith and Jennifer Garner going Gaga – will look like, but also the fact that he will be wearing a second suit in the movie. Apparently the main suit will be ditching the Nolan styled body armour and drawing its inspiration from the grey and blue Jim Lee designed costume worn in Batman: Hush, while the description of the second suit – which LR admit should be taken with a pinch of salt – has it sounding a lot like the exo-skeleton Batman wore to fight Superman in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

“The [most] interesting thing I’ve heard is that Batman will actually wear 2 Bat-suits in the film.” He then added, “Grey-and-Blue has already been designed and Affleck has worn it, the second Batsuit is more armored like the one in the Dark Knight Returns and Kingdom Come comics.”

“According to the source, the plating is silver/white. The plates are attached to a black undercloth. The plates doesn’t cover his entire body. We see the black undercloth at the joints. Supposedly, it looks incredible. Equally, or maybe even better-looking than the other suit and it’s leagues above and beyond Bale’s suit from what I’m told.

When can we get our first official look? I’m told you’ll see it in February/Early march.”

Oh Mondo, you poster making geniuses. As this new entry for 300: Rise of an Empire attests, your poster making skills just know no bounds.

With writer-director Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2 currently being lauded by most who have seen it as the best martial arts action movie ever made, it’s only a matter of time before the big studios all start throwing themselves at Evans, not unlike screaming girls backstage at a Justin Bieber concert. And when it comes to Box Office superiority, there are few as big as Marvel Studios and they just so happen to have one property that could fit perfectly with Evans’ talent for filmic fisticuffs: Iron Fist. Total Film felt the same way, and asked the writer-director about it.

“Total Film: So there’s a popular martial-arts comic book character called Iron Fist…

Gareth Evans: Ah yeah, a few people have mentioned that to me before.

TF: Would you be interested in doing a comic book movie like that if it had a style and a concept you’d be interested in?

GE: Totally, yeah. I’m not averse to it. My big thing right now is figuring out how to do that action style – and would someone like Marvel let me do a R-rated movie?

This isn’t me going against PG-13 movies, it’s just that the way I shoot action, it doesn’t need to be bloody or aggressive or ‘stabby stabby’ with knives, but it’s about when someone swings a punch and there’s a connection there, I’m not going to hide that with a camera. I get involved with the guys in that choreography design so I can understand the intricacies of what they’ve done, so that when I shoot it, what the camera angles should be and the editing should be, it’s doing justice to all the work they’ve put into it.

In PG-13 action, you hide the chaos and fill it with sound. That’s something I can’t do. So [if I made a comic book movie], it’d have to be an R.”

Graham Norton had the stars of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit on his show recently and Keira Knightley was dishing on some rather interesting acting experiences (like how the makeup and costume artists on the Pirates of the Caribbean films actually had to fake the normally flat chested Knightley’s cleavage through a combination of pushing up what little there was and then just painting in the rest) when she revealed that while filming Joe Wright’s Atonement and Pride and Prejudice the director completely banned her from pouting on screen.

Speaking of Joe Wright, the director’s new take on Peter Pan for WB, Pan, just hooked itself a costar. Literally. Garrett Hedlund has been signed to play Hook in the film which already has Hugh Jackman cast as the villainous Blackbeard. If you’re wondering why Hook isn’t the villain it’s because this new spin tells a slightly different origin story set in WW2, following an orphan named Peter who is kidnapped by pirates, taken to Neverland, and after becoming best friends with a local named Hook, discovers that he is destined to stop Blackbeard. It’s assumed that somewhere along the line Peter is going to have a falling out with the much older Hook, setting the stage for the rivalry we know.

According to reported open casting calls, the character of Peter will be between 10 and 12 years old.

Young British actor John Boyega proved that he could stand up to space monsters in Joe Cornish’s superb low-budget sci-fi actioner Attack the Block, but now he’s going to stand up to a monster of a different kind. For one, instead of neon jowls, this one sports arguably the most famous mustache in history. Boyega has signed to play Olympic athletic legend Jesse Owens in a biopic about his life, titled Race. The cleverly titled Race “will focus on how Owens, the son of an Alabama sharecropper, shattered Adolf Hitler’s myth of Aryan supremacy at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by winning a record four gold medals in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the long jump and the 400-meter relay.”

For a movie all about shady conspiracies and American bombings, it sure does look as if Pierce Brosnan and Milla Jovovich are having a whole lot of fun in these first set pics for Survivor. Also, running. There’s a whole lot of running. The action thriller is the latest from V for Vendetta director James McTeigue, which sees Jovovich as a government employee who is the lone survivor when the building she works in gets bombed. She’s implicated in the crime, and in the race to clear her name before another bombing takes place on New Year’s Eve, she uncovers some grand conspiracy. One that somehow requires Pierce Brosnan to always wear a trenchcoat.

The “evil plants are trying to kills us” genre is one that doesn’t get a lot of love lately. Mainly because it’s about “evil plants that are trying to kill us”. Really. But director Mike Newell is hoping to revive the genre and have us fear those daffodils again, as he has signed on to helm a new adaptation of John Wyndham’s novel Day of the Triffids. Neil Cross (Pacific Rim) will be adapting the story which follows the events after a strange comet shower blinds most people on Earth, with those still possessing sight left to defend themselves from the extra terrestrial plants that use the comet shower to try and invade the planet.

Having directed such a diverse fare as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Great Expectations among others, Newell is a seasoned genre hopper, so something like this should be right up his alley.

Wondering if you should take your parents to see Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac? (Hey, they may be a fan of Shia LaBeouf’s erect penis, you just never know!) Well, then maybe this article over at Variety will help make up a mind, as a filmmaker apparently took his parents to see the film at Sundance by accident (the sexually charged film was this year’s secret screening) and his 64-year old mom was kind enough to write up what she thought of the experience.

Am I the only one disappointed in the lack of butt plugs and/or inner goddesses being ravished on this first poster for Fifty Shades of Grey? Just me?

Jonah Hill was back to hosting SNL this past weekend, and besides for a really cool opening monologue (featuring one titanic cameo), he also produced this hilarious spoof of Spike Jonze’s Her, which just so happens to feature an even better cameo!
