Extras-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Extras---divider-thin

Extras-bullet-points-micro3A bit of sad news to start today with. Former child star Shirley Temple passed away today, age 85. Temple starred in 14 short films, 43 full length features and another 25 storybook movies throughout her career, that lasted from 1931 through t0 1961.

Famous for her curly locks and moves on the studio floor, Temple passed away in the company of friends and family.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3And now for something far less depressing. Jack Black will be teaming up with James Marsden for The D-Train, a film which examines the most useless time in the life of an adult, the high school reunion. Written by Mike “School of Rock” White, Black will play a high school reunion commitee chairman who will do whatever it takes to get the most popular member of that graduating class to the reunion.

The only problem? James Marsden’s character happens to be a mega-successful actor and has no interest in wasting his time at such an event, much like in real life.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Is that…an artistic poster for a movie? I thought that such things were extinct!

Under the SKin

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Never say never, because Hollywood clearly hasn’t thrown enough money at the Young Adult fad. The latest box office bomb on the horizon? Nerve, a 2012 novel from Jeanne Ryan. Here’s the official synopsis:

When Vee is picked to be a player in Nerve, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it’s exhilarating–Vee and Ian’s fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn. Suddenly they’re playing all or nothing, and the prize may be their lives.

Catfish and two-time Paranormal Activity franchise helmers Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman are currently working on the screenplay for the film, which probably involves feeding dollar bills into a paper shredder.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3You saw Scarlett Johansson promise to get Under Your Skin in the movie poster above. Now check out Johnny Depp and his new wired look in Transcendence.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Last year, when Warner Bros unveiled their Superman sequel, they did so by reading off a few select lines from the legendary graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. Kervyn and I promptly messed our pants with excitement. And other stuff.

But just how much of an influence will that book have? According to director Zack Snyder, it’s going to build not a distant future for the DC comics franchise, but a new one:

The comic book will influence the history of Batman vs. Superman, on which the writer David S. Goyer and myself will work.

As for Ben Affleck as the Batman, Snyder also revealed that he’ll have a personality that will serve as a good opposition to Henry Cavill’s Superman:

Ben brings an interesting counterweight to the performance of Henry in the role of Superman. He has the experience necessary to paint the picture of an older and more advised man than Clark Kent, who bears the scars of a seasoned vigilante while retaining the charm that Bruce Wayne deploys when present in the world.

2016 can’t come soon enough dammit.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Here’s your first look at Pierce Brosnan in the November Man, an action and espionage movie which follows the rules of cool guys not looking at explosions.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3The best things in life come in pairs. Smith and Wesson guns. Cheese and Onion chips. Comedians. And one such pairing of great comedians? Key and Peele, who happen to be rather excited for the new movie starring that Liam Neesons fellow, Non-Stop.
